Like the subject asks, does it really work? How does it compare to Sea Foam? I've always used Sea Foam, but I'm sitting here watching Speed, and Two Guys Garage is on, and of course they are talking up Z-Max. Anybody with experience?

Z Max assembly lube is supposed to be some really good *****. Don't know about everything else. I'm sure it works, but to what degree or how much better than the other guys I know not.

The test that bothers me was the little square of metal that was made up of just compressing some cast pieces. They heated it up on a hot plate and put a drop or two on it and said watch how it absorbs into the metal, freaking water would have absorbed into that piece of metal!

i didn't see this... but how would water be absorbed into hot metal? as a welder, i have heated up metal before to sweat the water out before welding, so that doesn't make much sense to me.

I use to be a mechanic, and the company I use to work for tried to get me to sell this crap. I found out later that there was a investigation on this company and found that most of what the z-max engine treatment was mineral oil. I would not recommend it.

You can see that the piece of metal was made by compressing pieces of cast metal, so it was very porous, they heated it up to like 170 Degrees on a hot plate, water would have absorbed into it the same way as that stuff did because that chunk of metal was so porous.

That stupid "kit" they sell at most parts places is such a scam. They include this sheet where you're supposed to document every single fill-up and your odometer mileage for X amount of miles or such an amount of time, and also show your mileage. Supposedly, it's guaranteed to improve your mileage by something like 5 MPG or whatever silliness, and this chart is supposed to show it.

When I worked for Checker Auto, some dude followed that thing to the letter and it (of course) didn't show ANY change in gas mileage. He came in raising hell because he wanted a refund from us. Of course, the guarantee is through the manufacturer, and all we could do was provide him with a receipt copy to send off - pretty much standard fare for anything like that (Wal-Mart and such do the same thing). He sent it off, then came back a month or so later pitching a fit because he never got a refund from them. We tried contacting the company, but long story short, they flat out refused to give him a refund because of some loophole of some kind in their warranty, like he waited more than 60 days after his purchase to submit his claim or some such nonsense.

Basically, ZMax is snake oil, and their company's a friggin' sham. I give it two thumbs down. :notnice: :notnice:

well if any one believes in z-max, the tornado and any of that other snake oil crap

You ever see how much the Tornado costs?? I called up one time asking to buy one for my Viper. Well the guy said i needed two since I have two throttle bodies and they were $75 EACH!

I always doubted that whole "It soaks into metal" line of crap, anyhow. Last I checked, most metals are not exactly porous (sp?) elements. Steel and aluminum do not "absorb" diddly-squat, so how the hell they expect their stuff to "soak into metal" is beyond me. If they'd made a more believable claim that it bonded to the surface of the metal, forming some kind of a protective layer, THAT I would be inclined to believe, but to say it actually SOAKS into metal ... c'mon. :nonono:

do you really have a viper? I already bought a piece of that bridge from greensvt21. when I go to take delivery next week I wanna ride in that car.

holy crap! How did i not know you had a Viper!!!!!??? man stangnet mods must get paid well!! :D

edit: Wait a min! haha if you have a Viper, why are you complaining about the $150 thats gonna add 50+ hp?
