Iso Someone Who Has Done V6 To V8 Swap.

Hello I am new to this site. I have been searching the entire web for more info on this motor swap and hopefully this is the forum that can finally answer all my questions. I recently picked up a 97 mustang with a 3.8 v6 for cheap and the tranny was junk so I said it and pulled the motor and transmission out and threw them up for sale. Only because I have a 4.6 motor and a whole 97 mustang donor car with a 4.6 and t45 manual trans already. I pulled the 4.6 and t45 today and to my understanding the v6 brake booster is too large so I pulled that and now i am stuck on how to reinstall it into the v6. It has three power steering related lines coming out of it and one goes to the rack and pinion but on the v6 there is no place to put it. And info and or tips on how to go about installing this gt brake booster setup would be great. I have a 6 week deadline to get this car done and out of my garage for a car show.

The GT uses a hydroboost setup which is different than the V6 as far as I know. You will likely need to swap the rack out from the donor car as well. This is a big swap, You are planning on swapping the harness out of the donor car as well?

Oh alright I was hoping i didn't have to do that but if it's got to be done it's got to be done. And yes I have all the wiring and computer pulled and ready to go back in I'm just waiting on my paint so I can paint the engine bay before I put everything back in. Does the stock v6 dash harness for an automatic have the wires to plug in a manual pedal assembly? Or do I need to switch all that out as well?

The entire dash harness will need to be changed as well, the heater controls and radio are about the only harnesses that will interchange. Also take a look at the fuel pump and lines, are they different for the V6 as well? Not sure, but worth looking into before you get too far into the swap. I've seen too many guys do swaps and scrap the donor car before they have removed all the parts they thought they needed.

Alright that's fine then I just just making sure I have a new set of interior out of a gt I had just purchased with a new dash so I will just switch that out while I am at it. And yes the fuel pump is different but the lines are the same. The v6 fuel lines are a tad bit longer but they work. I have done quite a few mustang motor swaps but nothing on the sn95 and this seems to be the most complicated so far haha.

Not an easy task for sure but certainly doable. Post some pictures of the process if you can! If you wanted to start a build thread or progress thread that would be great, I know other people could benefit from the information for sure. If you need help doing that I can help point you in the right direction

Yeah that would be great I'm not too sure how to post a build thread it took me a little bit to post this lol. Its been a pretty straight forward swap so far till I ran into this brake booster issue.

On the home screen to 96-04 Talk here: http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/forums/1996-2004-sn95-mustang-general-talk.52/ locate the "Post New Thread" tab. After clicking on the tab you can start a new post, there is a drop down menu on the left side of the screen where you can select they type of thread you want to create. At the bottom of the screen you will see a tab next to the blue box labeled "Post Thread" to upload pictures. Click on "Upload a File" and you can select the pictures you wish to add, after doing this you can locate a new tab that will allow you to embed the pictures as a full image. You also can copy and paste pictures into the Reply box from the internet if you so choose.
Let me know if you get stuck.

One last note, use the @ symbol to tag any member in a post. This will send them a notification and sometimes speed up a reply. @Ryan Clayton
