It's console adding time. Stock or Humhugger?

Well, I pretty much thought I came to the decision last week of spending the $90 finally on a Humphugger console since I seem to always find myself looking for a place to rest my elbow and place my drink. And especially isnce I have seen what places are getting for a re-conditioned one.

Well, like always, a snag has just come up that is making me re-think it and so I would like to get some feedback. My fater in law called last night and told me that a friend of his has just inherited a little known Ford graveyard (and some Mercury ranging from like the 20's to the 80's) in Southern Mass and he tells me that he has 2 consoles available (a short and a long??????) for 69' and he is letting them go for $50. Naturally since I am headed down south for the long weekend I plan to take digital camera in hand and go nose around this jungle for a few hours, if I see any interesting things I will click and post them and be happy to help secure any parts anyone needs.

So my question I guess is two fold. Would you guys choose a stock over the humphugger design even without having the much needed drink holders? And for those of you who have added either of the two to a non optioned 69', what are your opinions?

I'm sure the original will need a new lid which is like $30 and some minor refinishing assuming it has no major cracks so it seems the end result would cost me around the same dollar wise. I keep thinking for the price if I don't like it I can likely make a profit on a resale.

I have the style you posted in the pic. Not having a center console was a big pain, and now that I have one I use it ALL the time.

One thing I don't like is the fact that it slides around a little bit. The velcro they put on the bottom of the unit does not keep it in position. That being said, I intend to make a custom center console at some point and ditch the humphugger.

I love my stock console, so much that the only thing holding me back from a T5 swap is not being able to use my stock console.

To me, a console like the one in the pic would look out of place.

I have the humphugger also. Really like the storage space and it blends in perfectly with the interior. However if the factory console is in good shape it probably would be worth buying it even if you just end up selling it. They are bringing premium prices on EBay.

Since you have a lead on a stock one for a good price, I'd go that way. It wouldn't be too tough to get creative and make/buy/fabricate a cup holder or two that would be removable and work with the stock console. The saddle/hump hugger isn't a bad looking piece, but I'd rather make my own (that would be better and custom) or go stock, especially with that price tag.

Yeah the more I think about it, the more I feel I have nothing to lose getting the stock one if it's in good shape. Anyone know what could be the difference between a long and short one? Did the sportroof have a different one from the vert and coupe? If so, which is which? Could be a mistake too of course since I was not previously aware of two variations?

By the way, as I just mentioned to 67GT above in a PM, my plan is to at least take an inside, outside and engine shot of every stang I come across, then I will post pics and try to get info on any parts for anything that anyone is interested in. The guy really is looking to dump everything to sell the land and doesn't seem to really have a grasp on what his late father might have owned. The sad part is that by going by what my father in law has said, it appears that this guy may have spent most of his life gathering parts that he rarely sold, holding off for some big pay out in the future and didn't really protect everything very well from the elements, so alot has gone to crap now. :( I hope I am wrong because I really hate hearing those types of stories.

TRIED HUMPHUGGER FOR 69 MACH 1

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A FULL LENGTH HUMPHUGGER FOR MY 69 MACH1 AUTOMATIC, WELL RECEIVED THE FIRST ONE AND IT DIDN'T SET RIGHT IN THE FRONT OVER THE SHIFTER PLATE, SO SENT IT BACK AND THEY SENT ANOTHER ONE, DIDN'T WORK EITHER, SECOND ONE FIT OVER SHIFTER PLATE O.K. BUT WOULD NOT SET COMPLETELY DOWN ON THE TUNNEL, LEFT ABOUT A 2 INCH GAP. FINAL: SENT IT BACK, RE-INSTALLED FACTORY CONSOLE AND ORDERED PLUG AND CHUG FOR DRINK HOLDERS.

the plug-n-chug is made made by humphugger and on the 69 it just sits down in the seat belt holder for the factory console, that's waht i plan on doing with mine as well, i wouldn't give up my factory console for anything. not even the 3-400 bucks they seem to be going for on ebay. and the full length humphugger "cruiser" console is just plain ugly. they have started reproducing a lot of stuff for the 69-70 consoles lately including the upper body piece, the deluxe woodgrain center trim piece, the lids the shelby guage pod is always a worthy addition as well.

I have the humphugger on the stock console.

The humphugger is not permanently attached. If you think it's ugly or out of place, take it out and put it in the trunk when you get to a cruise-in or car show. Then replace it when you go driving...

But since you might be getting the other one for cheaper.. go ahead

Personally, I never did like the humphuggers. IMO, they look out of place and the one I saw at Mustang Plus (not Mustangs Plus) seemed to be very poorly made.

I'll have to look at a pic and refresh my memory as to what a 69 console looks like, but for Sadie I just got one of those small cup holders that attach with velcro tape. It's not huge so it doesn't detract too much from the interior of the car (that is, if she had an interior right now  ), it's not permanent, and it serves its purpose.

Im gonna agree with everyone else here. The humphugger is hideous and it never mounts that well. I have a 1969 Mach 1 and I love my console. It is perfect height to rest your arm, and it looks really sharp. They are getting harder and harder to get these days. I drove my friends 67 with a humphugger(which he sold) It was awful and ugly.

STOCK ALL THE WAY!!!
