Ive got a problem, need help please!

Ok here it is, I am in the process of installing my rebuilt 302 into my car but i came across a little dilema. The problem is mating the engine and transmission together. I can get all the bolts started in the bellhousing but when i start to bring them closer toghether by tightening them more the torque convertor studs/nuts and weights on the flywheel rub and scrape against the engine/block plate. Any ideas on what is wrong, or how i can solve it would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, what did you change or is everything the same as when you pulled the engine. wrong flexplate, torque converter maybe, need more info please

The only thing that changed was the block itself. I originally had a 68 302, but now i have a 74 302. I thought they were all the same

Am i wrong?

The machine shop i got the engine from said it would work just fine.

check to see if it was a 4spd block and check to see if there is a pilot bearing still in the block, i spent 2 hours trying to squish my new 289 and c4 tranny together when i finally figured out it was a block out of a 4 speed stang so i pulled the engine back out and pulled the bearing.

The crank they gave me back was my crank out of the 68 302, it was already turned .10, all they had to do was polish it. So it never had a pilot bearing/bushing. I wish it was that simple, but thanks anyways

BTW- I am almost positive that the convertor is installed correctly. I heard two distinctive clicks, and from what i have read and been told that is when you know it is right.

Im stumped

Other than the flexplate being bolted on backwards, I can't think of a thing.

Is the drain plug on teh converter lined up with the big hole in the flexplate???

Post 8 & 9, Have done that before.
after I found out thats what was wrong.

sounds like your converter isn't seated! pull it and check, this is the only thing that can really be wrong.
