Jack Points On Engine?

I've noticed a lot of the car shows on spike tv show them jacking up the car from a central point under the engine. I assume it's either on the engine or on the transmission?

Is that a safe way to raise the car?

If it's got a strong enough crossmember under it then sure. alot of front wheel drive cars have a strong enough frame section across the front thats part of the cradle to use if needed. I personally would not use the motor or tranny to rasie a car, good chance for damage and wrecking mounts.

I always Jack the car up from the center of the k member. I like to raise the car centrally both front and rear. I've actually seen fox bodies without subframes twist when jacked up from the side.

I Jack under the k-member up front and put stands on the k member on the sides. In the rear I Jack under the pumpkin and put the stands under the axle or under the rear subframe.

Been doing it this way 10+ years

Mustang5L5,

That looks to me like the best way as well. I always jacked the car up from the sides, but it's too tedious, having to switch sides to avoid having the jack stands uneven.

I just wasn't sure where they were putting the jack on the TV.

Thanks :)

I read somewhere that the axle tubes can be bent this way. Do you put them right in the middle or closer to the pumpkin or wheels? I don't have subframe connectors and am nervous to even jack my car up after all the unibody horror stories.

I slide the jack under the edge of the front control arms from behind the wheel. I put the jack stands under the control arm bushings. I never jack mustangs up at the pinch welds.

One day I'm going to buy a set of these...
