Is this for a 4.6 V8? Are you aware that the Ford service manual lists "remove K-member" as a required step to get enough clearance to remove the oil pan?
I recall seeing another thread where someone was trying to remove the oil pan and could not (with the K-member installed). The thread stated that another 1/2" was needed.
I am not sure if removing the transmission and flywheel may provide enough clearance to remove the oil pan without removing the K-member. Maybe someone else can chime in.
Good luck. I am imaging that the combination of clutch and oil pan gasket is going to be a tough row to hoe without a 4 post lift.
im replacing the clutch because the rear main seal went out and thats why im replacing the clutch and after that im removing the kmember so i can replace the oil pan gasket and inst headers thats why i wanted to know where the bast place to put the jack stands
Yea, too many close calls this way, I had the car roll off of a jackstand twice, shame on me kinda deal, I think I could've turned coal into a diamond w/the pucker factor, made me question my mortality.
O.p., if you are a master tech or a very experience car guy, I would just save and pay someone to do this, trannies are very heavy and awkward to manuever on jack stands and I'm no weak person. You need get this professionally done.
I personally would make sure you have at least two jack stands and two jacks. I always try to keep a jack positioned in the middle of the car and a stand on each side. For the clutch, a second jack makes it much easier to lower the tranny.
