Has any one used JBA's 40- 2653 exhaust system for 65 66 GT ? If so,How was the fit of the tail pipes? I an Looking to add 2.5 inch system but retain stock appearance and go through the rear valance. How was the sound ? Thanks for any help Chris

looks like ive got the best of both worlds. jba lt's feeding the magnaflow 2.5 sys. the lt's come down and toward each other so i need some customization on the pipes feeding the x pipe. havent heard them yet but will soon. both co's look like first rate quality.

btw brent your guys on the hrpt went above and beyond in cleveland hitting me up with a tee while closing up the trailer. thanks.

Me too....

The interesting thing is that the Magnaflow system I bought in January this year and have kept aside while my 66 coupe gets painted also is defective. The tailpipes are about 4 inches too short. Even with 12" extensions they are too short to exit the valance. I'm curious if this is a bigger issue than just these 2 sets and if Magnaflow is willing to swap out the too-short tailpipes for correctly-sized pieces.

I see how it is Chris, giving up on the MagnaFlow system all ready-

Just Kidding!

Rich told me he was getting you a new set of tail pipes????

Did he not do that?

I spoke with the Magnaflow warranty dept.

I spoke with the Magnaflow warranty dept.

They will not send out properly-sized pipes to anyone with incorrectly-sized pieces. All warranty issues are handled through the retail outlet only and not Magnaflow. All warranty issues call for the return of the complete kit, not just the defective pieces.

This is a problem for me since I didn't keep the box this system came in back in Jan (too big to store in the box).

I also have JBA headers. I'm curious to see the results of this thread looking for info on JBA exhausts.

Yep, next time I'll go custom.

Yep, next time I'll go custom. The Magnaflow system seemed like a good deal on paper. I'll try to find someone to rework these ill-fitting Magnaflow pieces since Magnaflow won't step up. At this point, probably would be the same price or cheaper to do custom from the start. Lesson learned.

Buy some Magnaflow mufflers and have someone build you a custom exhaust system. Nothing like a custom mandril bent exhaust setup.

Here's a photo

The photo below shows one of the defective tailpipes. The tailpipe should be 36" in length measured from end to end in a straight line (36" was confirmed by Magnaflow).

The photo below shows the pipe to be about 32.5" (although it was hard to get both ends of the pipe to show up in the photo with the tape measure). The missing length is at the end of the pipe only.

So if you buy the magnaflow kit 15815 for 64-66 Mustangs test fit the kit immediately and see if your tailpipes are also too short (or go custom and save yourself the hassle). This is most noticeable when exiting the pipes out the rear valance. If you run turn-downs be careful not to let the exhaust exit too far under the car or it could let fumes enter the cabin.

It's utterly strange to me how 32.5" pipes can pass a quality control test when the plans call for 36".
