JBA vs BBK short tube headers...

Which makes a better short tube to compliment my soon to get vt stage 2 cams/springs? I want to do long tubes, but my car sits too low for those. I know people swear by bbk tuned length (equal length), but jba also swears that their short tubes make more power of any others.

I've seen the JBA's and BBK's side by side to one another and the JBA's overall quality looks alot better than BBK. One obvious difference I saw was the BBK's had alot of rough surface and bumps at, and into the header. The JBA's overall surface area in the same place was very smooth.

Thats good to know. Did u get a chance to see them on a dyno at all.

One of my friends is is having a new head put on due to the head tick on his mach, so while it's torn apart he's having the JBA's put on. His Mach has never been on the dyno, and his mods so far is Flowmaster 40's welded in, C@L Tru Flo Intake, and then he will have the JBA's and SCT Excal 2 as new mods, so it will be kinda hard to tell exactly what he gained with just the headers.

my BBKs had a bit of splatter, but it wasn't anything my dremel couldn't take car of. Worth the price difference IMO, but I'm not sure what the Dyno would say.

Well,I was going with the jba mid length's, but my installer mis quoted me 700, but called me back saying that the cheapest that jba could do was 1100 for the stainless coating. Iam not paying 1100 for a freakin mid length header so I guess the shorties are it. I would like to run the kooks long tubes, but ground clearence may be an issue.

I have a set of JBA shorties in the garage. Had em for about a year and still haven't put them on. The guy I bought them from had put only about 100 miles on them, then decided to go with a different combo. I saw them in an advertisement selling for $440...

I'm thinking about selling them though....

the bends and everything else with the BBKs are excellent. They fit right up no leaks or anything. The splatters were only a little bit into the exhaust port, like I said about 30 minutes of dremel work to get a few burrs out.

The parts of the header that show are clean and smooth btw.

I believe kooks will cost well more than JBA. Have you looked into Bassanis midlength headers? Good quality, sounds wicked with their x pipe, and fairly cheap. $600 for the headers, and I forgot how much the xpipe was. Not to mention they come with quality header gaskets, so you don't have to spend another $150 at Cutter Ford on OEM gaskets.

im gonna be doin the same thing soon when i order my stage 1's because my car is too low also.....the only thing i keep hearing tho is that shorties dont make very much power at all. and for ~$500 many say its not worth it...

the other thing is that midlength and longtubes are illegal and wont pass smog in cali.

I've got the BBK's and if I could do it all over again, I would have spent the money elsewhere. For the money, the work involved installing them, and the bare minimal gain you get, if any, it flat out aint worth it. If you want to do them anyway, because they look cool on the left side of your engine(because you can't see them on the right), you'll need to sheild your A/C hoses, or you'll cook 'em.

Im just gonna man up and get the stainless jba mid length's as I found a place that ships them for $900 to my door. Thats the best price ive found so far and if im gonna do headers, might as well get decent gains out of them. Would love the kooks LT's, but I cant chance those with the ground clearence. Will I have any heat related isues with the mids... starters, steering shaft, ac lines or anything like that if so I can wrap them (not as pretty though)? Im excited!!! Even more so with the stage 2's (VT) Im getting right after the headers. Looking for at least 280-290rwhp with the combo.

get the headers ceramic coated, I bet it won't cost more than 200 if they only do the outsides.
