I don' know about the rest of you guys; but I'm already getting a little tired of the furnace kicking on and not shutting off outside!

Since Chelle's been showing up a bit here recently; can I put in a request for permission to dump a couple truckloads of ice into The Gutter?

i'm sure it's been hot there for sure, i know it's been damn hot here, luckily we've been getting some thunderstorms late afternoon everyday for the last few days and it looks like it will again tonight too.

I'm well aware of the weather trends out on this end of the world, Ol' Buddy! And I do appreciate being able to wear shorts and tee-shirts while doing my last Christmas shopping

However, the downside - of which I'm aware, but that doesn't mean I like it is that temps dip down into the mid-90's this time of year. To matters more interesting, you can only take cool showers before 11AM; because at the very moderate depths our water lines are planted (It only hard-freezes for 2-3 days out of the year! Another ) - anytime acfter noon you only get hot water from the HOT tap, and HOTTER water out of the COLD tap! Consequently; a couple of end-dump trucks full of ICE in The Gutter would make for a nice refreshing place to lower one's core-temp down below 100*

You know it's summer in Yuma when the local rednecks start drinking 2 gallons of iced tea each day - "Becase it's too D@mn hot to drink beer!"

Ahhh....It could be worse my young Padawan! We could both be living in that region of the Closet/Gutter reality that is now being FLUSHED clean by the Ol' Mississip!

Yeah...... Tink and SVT drove into and through that quagmire to go back and see his folks in Western Iowa. Apparently, the farm and the little town of Massena came out ok, both being on relatively high ground. The trip across the valley from one to the other, however, had become a trip around the valley (unless you had a boat)!

From what Tink told me; the real bummer was not being able to go to the Friday night races..... track was apparently too deep unless they were racing kayaks and canoes.

There was a 10K kayak race here two weeks ago.....not sure how they would do in the 1/4 mile tho'!
What really sucks is the South East is still under drought conditions.....shame the water couldn't be diverted.

The track near AJ's family's place is not a 1/4 - miler. Circle track, dirt or mud (or in this case, soupy goo)..... I think it's a half-miler but it may be longer

Heck, if the water is 3 - 4 feet deep they could run powerboats. Saw these races televised from down under where they were running these boats in a track - like course with canals and channels only about 4 feet deep. Timed events, each boat runs solo, pretty cool when they miss a turn and launch over a burm!

ACS (Adams County Speedway) is a 1/2 mile "Gumbo" (dirt/clay mix) oveal with two 1/8 mile straightaways and banked turns. It's a nice enough track that people (including Carl Edwards' younger brother Kenny) drive from as far as STL to race there.

Oh and BTW they got that track dried out enough that we DID go to the races, the track was ok but the pits were a tad damp in places and smelled like an old dried out hog waller.

Dad got 11th with the Travelin' Javelin. Not bad considering we started at 9 in the morning with just a longblock, installed ALL the accessories including shaft rockers and R&Ring the intake to reinstall the lifters (someone flipped the motor on the stand with no pushrods in it... THANKS DAD), and had a hard time priming the motor (AMC's have an external oil pump, he has converted it to dry sump, and it just didn't wanna get the air out) And had some other small issues that included having to replace the radiator at the last second...

LOL was a fun thrash all in all. Too bad my 72 AMX thrash didn't go as well..

Anyway, I think me and Trish have it figured out now, we need two jobs each, one in Iowa one in AZ, then we'll spend summers in IA and winters in AZ.
No snow, no ice, no "hundred and WHAT-teen?" heat.. And y'all pick on Snowbirds. They got it figured out! lol...

Don't get to see many of these out that way do ya??

Yes, SVTCobra306, we do see rainbows or parts of them. Its just that any amout of precipation usually evaporates prior to hitting the ground. Ask Tink what it's like to see storm clouds and rain coming out of them in the distance, but the rain is a traditional desert 6 inch rain ( a drop every six inches apart...

Oh, I've seen a few rainbows in the skies around here..... and, usually at the exact same time, the streets look like they do in the last 2-3 of the pics Chelle posted.

Gotta remember, our total annual rainfail happens in two storms each year; so, when it comes down, it's like 3500 firehoses waving all over the place at full blast for about 2-1/4 seconds.

Wow, we posted at the same time! Sue's right, most raindrops usually evaporate before they hit the ground! But when it does make it to the ground; you need an ark! But only for about 5 minutes, then it's dry again.

Well the suumer mansoon season has started. Phoenix is ready to flat down the river with getting an inch of rain (1/3 annual rain fall) in one afternoon. Yes Tink we saw rain last week-end not to the same extent as back in89 but it was impressive. The fire danger for the whole state is down to moderate instead of extreme. The one problem with the rains is the solar dryer doesnt work very well.
