Jetting and timing?

i have just changed the intake on my car from professional products RPM air gap to a victor jr intake, i had to loosen the distributor to get the intake on the car(didnt wanna yank it out), i got it set back enough to run i wanna make sure its right, and i figured i would have to change the jets for the new intake also, here is my combo

302 std bore, unported victor jr, cleaned up E7s w/ 1.94/1.60s, 1.6RRs, trick flow stage 1, 650 dp holley, stock TFI :notnice: , MAC longtubes w/ a prochamber and flowmaster mufflers, im not sure what jets are in the carb now, but i was just wanting an idea on what jets to start with.

what should i set the timing at also?...spout in or out?...the car backfired through the carb before i got the timing right, is there a chance i popped the powervalve?

the car is an 88 coupe w/ a 5 speed with 4.10s, has rear lower control arms, KYB shocks out back, subframe connectors(weld on), lakewood 90/10s and 4 cyl springs up front.
 
how are you running the stock tfi with a carb setup? just curious because ive never heard of anyone doing that. i wouldnt think you would need to rejet the carb at all. the motor isnt going to necessarily pull anymore air than it was before. youll have to readjust your idle mixture screws im sure but the jets should be fine. get the timing set right and see how it runs. if you did indeed blow the power valve i would suggest getting the blowout protection kit that holley sells. if its a newer holley than i wouldnt worry about it because they come from holley with it already installed. by the way....we have almost the same motor except yours has bigger valves and mine has 1.7 rockers. im running the pp air gap intake also.
 
ive only had the car for 2 months or so, it had the carb on it when i got it, the timing is locked out to whatever you set the distributor at, no advance at all. my car might have 1.7s also, i believe they are FMS rocker arms, i pulled one off to see if the ratio was stamped in it, but nothing.

have you had your car to the track?...what did it run?
 
sorry havent had it at the track yet....but if youre running locked out timing youre gonna need to be running a lot of initial timing which will make it extremely hard to start especially if the motor is hot. the spout isnt gonna have anything to do with anything anymore since you removed the computer.

edit: wait is this on an 85 or on an 88? your username says 85 but your sig says 88
 
its an 88, i was born in 85(im a youngin),

actually the computer is still in there, has the factory rev limiter and all, my car went 14.14 @ 104 w/ a 2.4 60' with the spout in, and a 13.95 @ 101 w/ a 2.17 60' with it out, didnt change anything, launched it the same and all, on street tires. ive been told to advance the thing till it damn near wont start, and then pull it back down a couple degrees, thats pretty far advanced though, i might try it and see how it goes. i just dont wanna worry about detonation :( i dont wanna break ****.
 
Why not just do it the right way and get a dizzy for it, either use a carbed unit from an 85, or get an MSD. That way you can run good initial with an advance curve. This will help performance, economy and longevity. Also, may I ask why you are running a Vic Jr on an almost stock 302? Thats a huge intake. As for the carb, I'm sure your timing was just off. If its a fairly new carb it should have power valve protection so the PV should be fine.
 
well the car is gonna get a turbo, i have a MP T70 thats getting put on it over the winter, i figured the single plane intake would be better for boost over the dual plane. and ive always read about people locking out the timing for boost, and i figured with the TFI and carb, the timing would be locked out already, so no point in switching. ive been all over turbomustangs.com reading.
i also have a set of edelbrock performer heads for the car also, just havent put them on yet.
 
i guess my heads are a little more than cleaned up then because the ports on the e7s are pretty much exactly the same size as the ports on the victor jr, my car has a 3" cowl on it, with a 2" element and the victor jr it clears, i am a little worried about my carb bonnet not fitting :( , i might have to go with a 4" cowl or something.

im not sure on the carb, its a 4777-7 i think, i dunno how to tell how old the carb is,
 
I ran a blowthrough setup with a Torker II intake, TFS heads, X303 cam, 342 stroker, 750 Holley and D-1 Procharger and it made 516 at the wheels at less than 5000 rpms before the fuel system couldnt keep up. I since sold off the setup and I'm running a 466 with the Torker II intake again and it almost clears under the stock hood so I have an 82 hood scoop on it now.
