jikelley-------What's with all the Edelbrock tuning threads being dredged up?

I like the Carter design a lot and I think they are really user friendly, but I've never tuned a holley before and only ever rebuilt one autolite carb so I really can't speak to the which design is better. I just know the Carter/Edelbrock carbs have worked and worked really well for me.

:D :rlaugh: Come on now, you know we're just yanking you Edelbrock guys chain.:SNSign: We've been told soooo many times how they need no tuning or adjustments versus a Holley, so we just got to rub it in.:D :nice: Anyone who knows carbs, also knows there's no such thing as a bolt on carb that's ready to go. They all need to be tuned for the best output, otherwise you're leaving power on the table. I've also learned that what many cases, what seems like the carb is out of tune, it isn't the carb doing it, but an ignition problem that's the culprit. There's also the guys who just have to "fiddle" with a carb no matter how perfect it is,they have to mess with it, then get everything screwed up so bad they yank the carb off for something else.

The last big "boo-boo" I made was building a 400M to replace the overheating one in my Kid's 77 F100, After spending 2 grand on the new 400, I pulled the old one out and after a couple weeks, got around to tearing the overheated one down to find it's only problem was a backwards installed head gasket.:nono: :rlaugh: Luckily I wasn't the one who did the gasket, but the one who mis-diagnosed it.

if anything the e'brock/carter carbs are easier to tune. just 2 little torx screws and pull the jets and metering rods out and swap them don't even need to take the carb off the engine or replace any gaskets. they are also generally closer out of the box and i've never had to re-adjust one once it's been installed vs every holley i've ever had that needed some kind of tweaking to get it close even. my demon even has to be tweaked every now and then but not near as much as any of the holleys i've had.

I couldn't disagree more. When you want to jet up in a holley, you just change the jet. You don't have to worry about wether or not your math is right because you need to consider rods also.(it takes more than two torques to get the jets out) Then you have to hope you get the right rod and jet combination in your assortment kit. Otherwise you can have rich cruise and lean WOT or the other way around because they don't make a combination that suits.
I will just say they are nice in the balpark, but there are way too many things you can't do with these carbs, and things you can't fix.So why edelbrock is charging more than Holley now is BEYOND me.
