Ok so my AOD is no fun. Lookin to bang gears with a junkyard T5
Is anyone familiar with what year vehicles they came in?...
also, do you think they would charge less if i went in asking about a
trans from a lesser vehicle than they would if i said '5.0'

I'm pretty positive the Fox guys are able to use 4 cylinder T5's... And, IIRC, there's a slight difference in the overdrive gear used in those models - not sure if it's better or worse though.

IMO ,1st gear of a 4cyl t-5 is worthless behind a 5.0 if you have 3.55 or lower gears in your rearend. as far as priceing goes, it really depends on the junkyard. I would think somewhere around $250-350 would be a decent price for a good junkyard 5.0 T-5.
the 4cyl t-5's have a different size input shaft than the 5.0's do & a 4cyl bellhousing will not bolt up to a 5.0. so you would need a 5.0 bellhousing anyway. I would just look around for a good 5.0 trans. try the classifieds here on SN & also on corral.net.

thanks for the replys & links! just found a world class t5 w/bellhousing and clutch for $300 on craigslist! its from a thunderbird turbo coupe! he also has 2 turbos im guessing from turbo coupes...would these work for a v8 build? If so i might get'em and start a project....Project Junkyard Dog....what yall think?

The turbo coupe bellhousing wont work with your car. FYI. Also the turbos from a TC are waaayyy small. If you use them to turbo your 5.0 you wont be making a lot of boost.

If you buy a t-5 off CL expect to rebuild it just because there is no gaurentee it will be any good. I would rather pay the same price or possibly a little more from a JY since most will exchange it if it's bad.

86-93 foxbodies have direct swap parts.

Good info! Right about the jnkyard exchange, even if it is a little more cuz if the craigslist trans is shot its another200 somthng for the rebuild kit...

Just curious; would a manual from a Chevy 350 work?
HIgher torque rating maybe?
i know the bolt pattern would not be the same so an adapter will be needed,
heard of 350 guys using a t5 is why i ask
