i am just rying to see if you have to run with the engine block plate or not. i was givin one with the t5 i bought but it is for a automatic and won't line up. so if i don't have to run one then great. any body know?
I've ran without one but it's really a bad idea. As mentioned it works with the starter...or in other words the thickness of it is part of getting the starter "shimmed". Ford starters typically don't require shimming, but if you take away that 1/16-1/8 of an inch or whatever it is, then your starter gear may not line up right with the flywheel. Also it acts as a shield for debris getting into your clutch area.
They aren't very expensive if you buy a new one. You should be able to pick them up at a Ford dealer. I bought one from a dealer a few years back and I want to say it was only like 18$.

I actually had to use two starter shims with my block plate when I built my 331 with a 28oz billet flywheel and mini gear reduction starter. But yes typically no need for shims. The parts guy didn't even know they existed for Fords....

Typically the cutoff is 10 years, so in 2003...a TON of factory Fox parts went obsolete. The only way to find some at the dealer is if they are still used on the SN95's
