i just bought a 1990 coupe, its my second fox-coupe, red on black and i noticed that when i brake, it makes a sound from what seems to be in the dashboard somewhere, that sounds like "eleanor" dying in the movie gone in 60 seconds. anyone have any ideas?

Sorry, but your description is a little unclear. Is the sound coming from the engine bay? Is your motor actually dying(having a hard time staying running)? Do RPM's fluctuate when you hit the brake?

Do you know what modifcations have been performed to the car? What cam does it have?

I have no idea what "sounds like "eleanor" dying in the movie gone in 60 seconds" means, but noise from the dashboard when braking would lead me to suspect a leak or noise coming from the brake booster or pedal. A little less obscure description of the noise would be helpful.

Ha, I think I know this sound and have referenced it before. When Cage is down in the docks after a little chase and the car starts sounding like it is running out of fuel. :p

Have you checked your brake booster and the vac line to it? When the vac signal is messed with, it can cause some issues (depending upon what is going south).

Also, is the idle set decently? 5.0L's dont use the IAC to compensate for increased load when applying brakes (many 4 bangers do). So if the idle is on the edge of being insufficient, the brakes could put it over the top.

My ramblings. good luck.

Sorry for the confusion. At first i thought it may have been the brakes, then i thought it was the frame flexing on un-even ground, but i realized later in the day that it only makes the sound when i turn the steering wheel, and not when i brake in a straight line. At a dead stop if i turn the wheel back and forth it sounds like a light clunk.
