Just bought an '05 GT

Have to say that, while they are very civil, after 2 weeks, they are not Mustangs. I consider it kind of a HUGE, fast, minivan. My wife likes it , because they don't squeak or rattle, but they have no road feel or personality.

I will be selling it at a loss so I can keep my fox body convertible. Definitely rougher, but about half the size (not just talking weight here) and WAY more fun to drive. Wish I could keep both, as the new one is definitely a high horespower
grocery getter, but I drive mustangs because they are fun, not practical. I'm sure I can throw a supercharger on it to get it to pull, But there is nothing that can be done about the behemoth size. I used to have an Oldsmobile Delta 88 as a winter beater, and this car reminds just a little too much of that car.

To Ford, thanks but no thanks. If this is what you have to do to your car to make it ride nice and have decent turn in, there has to be something else out there.
Even if the car had 1000 horespower, it would still be a minivan in size.

Maybe it's because I 'm not overweight, or old, ( i'm only 43) but the car is just TOO big for me.

Good point. I guess I'm lamenting over the fact that; with a few grand of upgrades, I currently have a 320 HP car that is an MG compared to the new pig. (sorry Mustang) Don't get me wrong, the new ride is plush compared to my other car, and it has way more luggage space. It also has a killer sound system. It's like owning a nice new Honda Odyssey with way more power.

How in the heck does it feel like a minivan? And didn't you test drive it before buying?

Either way, a tune, cai, adjustable panhard bar, and lca's will take care of both of the problems. You'll spend less than a grand on that, which I'm sure is less than you'll lose by selling the car, and you'll have one great ride. The panhard bar and LCA's let you feel the road and give you a bit of a harsher ride, not to mention making it ride on rails. Perfect for what you're looking for.

I think 7upstang does not understand what they were trying to accomplish when they came out with the 05 mustang. I Believe that Ford was targeting people who loved the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s. If you look at a 1970 mustang the width and wheel base are not that far from the new mustang. This was before they changed the body style, when gas was hard to come by and even the mustang became an economy car for a time. Look at the mustangs from the early 80's They were economy cars 140 hp for a v8 engine at that time ! My old sn95 v6 had more horse power then that. If you like small econo foxes that is great. But if you want the closest thing for nostalgia value to an early muscle car without the upkeep the new body style is it! And just so you dont thing I am an old man I am 33 years old and 200lbs (muscle). So I guess you dont have to be old and fat to like these cars. I have been in my fair share of fox bodies, too squeaky, and not enough shoulder room, I guess depending on how wide your shoulders are! Cheap shot, my bad! Seriously though I love all Mustangs! Like StanMckinney said you are obviously not a mustang fan! Maybe you should stick to your delta 88 or buy yourself that honda suv. I hear the honda pilot is very nice.

I can't even imagine myself thinking of the S197 as anything near a family sedan...let alone a minivan in feel and size Actually my first impression when slipping behind the wheel was...is this thing more cramped inside than my '00??? I got the feeling I was sitting in a truck(only due to the fact that you can see the WHOLE hood and it looks soooo wide, but now it just blends in with the bottom of the windshield(very easy to get a comfortable feel in this car). Heck, I have never even had to adjust the tilt wheel(I HAD to in my previous 3 body styles!!! The one thing to me that I notice the most about the suspension is that when at speed, you hit a bump on a gentle turn, the rear hops to the outside...that is a bit unsettling at say...50 or above(like a small imperfection on an on or off ramp on the interstate), but that is due to the solid rear axle. I'm not sure what suspension tweaks would remedy that. I also haven't experienced many of the problems some have with their Stangs(rear end probs, suspension clunks, stereo problems, battery problems), so I feel very good with what Ford accomplished with the new Stang. It is light years ahead of the previous gens.

Actually I think I am a huge Mustang fan (Just not a fan of Huge mustangs) I just don't like the numbness of the new cars. No road feel, and when cornering at our local track, you can completely and totally feel the extra weight of the new car versus the Fox body.

I may spend 275.00 (Canadian) and fire on a set of Eibachs to see if that helps the handling issue. it's tough to make a 3450LB car with 300HP keep up with a 3100LB car with 320HP though.

My fox is actually a mint car, not a peice of ***** as was mentioned earlier. ,But yes, an 18 year old convertible will definitely develope some rattles.

And just for the record, I have 42" shoulders.

Glad you love your Fox. Unfortunately for you, the rest of the world has moved on. If Ford was attempting to sell new Fox Mustangs today, the Mustang would disappear as the Fox is not a vehicle that would sell in the auto market of 2007.

While I do agree the S197 would be better if it were smaller and lighter, today's market place demands the refinement the S197 delivers and then some. Most car rag reviewers consider the S197 a bit crude and unrefined compared to competing sporty cars. While a Fox Mustang may be "fun to drive", these days I could only tolerage the sort of fun a Fox provides in doses smaller than 10 miles at a time.

If you're looking for support in your decision to get rid of your 05 Stang, you may want to move this topic over to the 5.0 talk section.

Sitting next to a fox body the s197 does look like a mini- van. That's been my main complaint for the s197, they just look too fat.

When they first came out I hated them, but they grew on me.

I would trade ride quality etc. for a smaller lighter car though. I would have rather seen a 3200 pound s197 with less road refinement myself. I have to agree with the poster to a certain degree, a 5.0 fox is a fun car to drive. I think that's mainly because the pushrod 5.0 doesn't have to spool up to move the car like the sohc 4.6 does.

Be nice if the s197 came with a 300 hp pushrod 5.0

Oh, and I don't know where you guys are from but around here when you drive a new car off the dealer lot you just lost your *ss

I'm from the land of "I pay attention". He bought an 05, I kinda doubt a dealer had a leftover, hence, he bought it used. Why would anyone with half a brain buy a used car so over-priced that he could only re-sell it at a huge loss?
