Just bought an 88 notch.. where to find motor?

Hey guys I just bought myself a new track toy. It's an 88 notch with a bunch of goodies done to it including a 150 shot of nitrous. It still only has a 302 bored out to a 306. I want to find a more stout motor for this thing. My goal is a 351 stroked out to a 408 with a Vortech V7 YSi trim blower on it. I know I can get the blower just need to find a place where I can pick up a 351 and a stroker kit for it that won't cost 20g's. i just gotta figure out if the V7 will work with a 351 or just a 302 style.

Here's the car anyways, I'm picking it up on Monday.

thanks man. I'm gonna need some of you experienced Fox guys here in the near future I'm sure. I don't know much about these cars so this is gonna be a steep learning curve. It should be all nuts and bolts like my other car, just a totally different aftermarket and so many damn chioces with these cars, especially motor wise. I talked to a friend last night and he has a newly rebuilt 351 Cleveland on a stand in his garage, just needs an intake. He said if he can find a 429 he'd sell me the Cleveland. Once again I don't know the advantages or disadvantages to the Cleveland motor. I know they are stout but what aftermarket is there for them or is this gonna be a swap meet type of easter egg hunt for parts for this motor.

I swapped a 351c into my 86 Mustang, since I am exceptionally cheap I just modified some 71-73 Mustang headers and notched a 351m rear sump truck oil pan http://www.geocities.com/idfergusson/351c_swap.html?200719 Some good sources of parts and/or information are Ebay, the 351c forum on Network 54 http://www.network54.com/Forum/119419/ or there is a 351c forum and classifieds section on the Corral.Summit stocks parts as well, they might not be in the catalog but if you search the website you can find them.351c engines use the same motor mounts as a 302-351w, have the same bellhousing pattern and use the same 28 oz balance as 351w engines and pre 81 302's.A lot of people confuse 351c engines with the 351m motors which were made later so you might be wise to check the casting numbers before you leap, if the engine on the stand has the 4 barrel heads which have the bigger ports then there should be a "4" cast into the top corner of the heads beside the valve cover.

How about a 460? I have the motor, C-6, plate, Hooker super comps and the drive shaft. Don't got the time or the money to put the 460 into the car I have so if you like let me know.

What tranny you want to run--5spd or auto?

I just saw you moved Jesse, that sucks for us close to Calgary guys. Ya we talked about my motor a few times. Matt thinks we have it figured out, bad computer, got a new computer and a new tune from Matt, now need to put it all in the car. i'm a little chicken to try it out while i'm in racing season, don't want to mess with anything until it's all over. I'd probably be looking at an Auto C6 preferably, because it is going to be a pure track car the auto would be more consistent. I'll give you a buzz when i know what the hell i want to do or even spend. I got the car now gotta start saving cash to put into the new money pit . 10's are where I want to be at the strip.

Why does that suck? Its faster to Swift from the Hat than Calgary.
Or are you closer to Calgary some where else?

Damn I misread your post, I thought you moved to Saskatoon. Calgary's loss is my gain . Swift is just down the road from the Hat here. Awesome. I'll have to pick your brain.
The reason I like the C6 is becuase I've seen them run so damn fast and consistent at the track. I wouldn't mind a C4 as long as it could hold up. Unless you have other suggestions?

I think the best thing to do is decide what you want out of the car first.

ET?
MPH?
Track only or Street-Strip?
What kind of motor?
Blower, Turbo or Nitrious?
EFI or Carb?
Fuel System?
Tranny?
Diff?
Susp.?
Cage or not to cage?
(above not in any kind of order, but all should be answered before a build)

And the list goes on...

Also, not in the list but always a factor, $$$$$$

Actually i can answer all those q's.

ET - Low to mid 10's

MPH - What ever it takes to get to low to mid tens, proably close to 125mph

Street/Strip - but don't care if it turns out to be strip only.

Power Adder- Already have nitrous system but would like 10's N/A, shouldn't be a problem with a 410CI.

Carb/EFI - Don't care, i don't know enough about carb set ups though.

Fuel System - Already done for EFI

Trannu - C4 or C6

Diff - Already done, 3.73's Eaton spool with 31 Splines

Cage - Done, goes in in the winter

The motor set up is the big question for me. i don't know if a 347 can get me where I want to be. I know a 351 can get me there bored out to a 408 or a 410. Don't know how much pushrod stuff costs or how durable they are though. I hear too many horror stories of pushrod guys always fixing motors due to cracked blocks in town.

Thats cause people don't want to spend the money and do it right the first time.

Just cause you spend the money doesn't mean it won't break, its got to be done right too.

Try to run 10's on just motor won't be cheap.

a buddy of mine has a ysi renegade kit on his 393w. drivers side mount. gives you lots of intercooling options. so yes you can put a ysi on a 351 block. just don't plan on power steering.

Well thanks to Lil' Red I've got my new power plant for the Fox. I got a 460 with a C6, Hooker super comp headers to fit a 460 into a Fox, a motorplate For a 460, and a driveshaft for a 460 to fit in a Fox. This is going to be a fun build. I'm gonna bore and stroke it out to a 530 and put a nice stall in the tranny. Should run 10's with stock D3VE ported heads no problem. A friend at the track who owns a race shop in Brooks runs a 460 bored and stroked out to a 600 cuber and runs 7.8's at our track. A little too much for me. Obviously a full blown race chassis but it's in a 93 Fox door car. This will be a longer term build, probably 2 years before it's where I want it to be.
