well, this won't add horsepower but get some gears.

3.73 or 4.10 depending on if you drive the car alot on the highway, if so, get the former.

Is it 5spd or auto? I hope it's a manual as gears will be much easier to calibrate.

First, you need to get some mad tite DUBS! Then you need a big wing to give you enough downforce for racing. Don't forget to get a big air-dam as well, 'cause most people forget this and they end up liftin' the front end on highways. Last thing you need is to start putting performance racing stickers on it to get the edge.

:SNSign: Sorry, I couldn't resist.

gears, exhuast, underdrive pulleys all will wake it up a bit. but if your looking for fast power, get some nitrous. just be safe with it

Bone stock...
Gears, O/R H-pipe, and work on the suspension... makes for an enjoyable ride even if not the fastest... THEN once you have a good platform to work with go for some power mods...

I'm kinda shocked no one else has said this yet. Kinda scary actually...

Put a GOOD tune-up on the car and advance the timing. It'll make a world of difference.

its is auto. and i think i will do exhaust first because it needs it any way.
But i went to Flowmaters site and i really don't know the difference between the exhauts. I gathered from the postings here that H-pipes give a throatier sound and i prefer that but specifically what should i get? and what would be the cost?

if your not worried about emissions you can get an off road H-pipe. as far as finding a cat back exhaust system, if you want a throaty sound flow masters are good, or I have heard that the mac catbacks sound pretty good as well.

Welcome to StangNet, and congrats on the purchase.

As far as starting mods, I would suggest you think about some mods other than power (as suggested by others). For example, since you have a 'vert my suggestion for a first mod would be subframe connectors. They will noticeably stiffen the car. You don't need to do this first, but keep it in mind because you will probably want to do it before long.

Otherwise, exhaust is a good early mod. It won't add much in terms of power, but the improved sound will convince your ear that the car is faster.

Hint on exhaust, mid pipes are for volume (off road is considerably louder) and cat-backs are for tone. After that, the choices between mid-pipe styles and cat-back brands are primarily a question of preference.

Definitely do the free/cheap mods: bump timing up, remove air silencer, install K&N.

Best advice in this thread!

New spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new distributor cap and rotor, and an oil and filter change should be done at the MINIMUM.

A cooling system flush won't hurt and it might be beneficial to think about changing the tranny fluid too. Cleaning the MAF, replacing the fuel filter, and replacing the PCV would be great ideas at this time as well.

After that? Well, for nice basics I'd add an off-road H-pipe mated to a decent cat-back exhaust kit, some underdrive pulleys, a TransGo shift kit, 4.10s (do NOT go with less gear for your auto), and advanced timing would realy wake up that auto!
