Just can't Let go. "The Fox"

When the GT500 was announced, I was given the okay by The Wife to get one if I really wanted one. I even went to the extent of putting a deposit down at the local dealership to get their first one at list price. After thinking about it for several weeks and realizing that I'd have to get rid of my 'vert to have room for it, I declined. I still don't regret it.

I bought my car in 1999 with only 30,000 miles on it and have spent the last 10 years and 75,000 miles modding it to be exactly the way I want it. I honestly can't tell you how much it would take to get me to sell it.
 
I couldn't sell mine, after I started dumping money into I knew I was keeping it no matter what. once you start spending cash modding these things you either live with it or take a beating when you sell it. I do love me a fox though :nice:
 
When i was selling my '03 GT, i got about 3 offers to trade a 4-wheeler plus cash for the car.

I don't understand this thing, either. I see this in every other ad where someone's selling a Fox - "Will also trade for ATV or sandrail/dune buggy." WTF?!? Is EVERYONE ditching street cars for off-road toys, these days? I just don't understand the trend, myself... :scratch:

I thought that was just around here... I wish I had a 4 wheel drive something to trade for another fox or other car.

I know I'd regret getting rid of my Fox if I did. :(

i had a guy wanting to buy my vert one time. he approached me, the car was not for sale, then he got his butt on his shoulder when i told him what it would take to buy it from me. it was not an large number, like 4 or 5 grand, but he thought that he could buy it cheep because it was encountering some minor problems at the time. The only way in getting rid of my car now is if i have to sell it for scrap, and thats only after i strip it for parts for my next fox.
 
So a New Edge is a piece of **** because is a couple hundred pounds heavier than a Fox???...c'mon man, you've got to do better than that! How does that statement make sense? Hell, an S197 is heavier than both of them and it’s twice the car the SN95 is and 3-times the car the Fox is by comparison. :scratch:

Besides, we all know that despite the slightly heavier curb weight, comparing both cars in stock trim has the New Edge SN95 outrunning, out handling, out stopping and strait up outperforming its predecessor by leaps and bounds....so what difference did that extra 100-200lbs make?

Not digging the SN95 because of the style, or complexity (even if it is marginal by comparison) or because of some nostalgic value one would place on their Fox is one thing…and certainly more than enough reason to choose one car over the other, but these are subjective personal preferences at best. Really, if the New Edge is a piece of **** and it’s an improved version of the Fox, does that make the Fox diarrhea by comparison? :shrug:

good thing most of us dont leave our foxes stock, IMO i think mechanically foxes can achieve things much easier than the sn95 and the new edge can

As much as I love my car, if an offer like that ever crosses my lap...it's gone.

I'm not actively seeking to sell my Fox, but if i'm ever at a show and someone legitimately makes a good offer...it's gone.

+1 to all of that.. I love my fox but if the right offer came along i'd sell...

I'd say that's debatable...in any case, taking the thread it in this direction is probably now what the original posters is looking for though.

If you sink money into your fox of course you can make it out handle, our brake, or run any of the newer generation mustangs..

But you can then inturn mod those cars to out do the modded fox..

then the fox guy can mod more.. Its just a cycle of modding...

The debatable part was based on the statement "mechanically foxes can achieve things much easier than the sn95 and the new edge can". At certain power levels and with particular methods of achieving such this may be somewhat true, but in just as many instances, using other methods it is not.

Why is it that the only times I ever see you consistently/actively posting in 5.0 talk is when its an argument of Fox vs anything newer? Hmmm?

I think I can accurately say that it is MUCH cheaper to do a head/cam/intake swap on a 5.0 car vs. the cammers...especially if you have a 4 cam Cobra. I managed to pic up a driveable 1997 Cobra to part out to get the drivetrain. Plans were to swap the motor into a 1980 Cobra roller I bought. I then researched cams, heads, and a few other mods - WOW! This stuff is a little pricey!!! Yikes! I can build a fuel injected 302 for half of what that 4 cam would cost!
The only edge cars I like is the Mach1, Cobra, and the Saleen. If I'm gonna have a GT I'd rather have a Fox GT or a 2005+ GT. The newer (meaning 94-2010) Mustans are just too darn heavy. I think I'm just spoiled from my 1985 LX Notchback. I still have only about $20k into the car ($5k is what I bought it for 11 years ago with 50,000 miles on it) since I've owned it and with the new motor and suspension combo it will make close to 400 hp, run well into the 11's and I can still drive it to the store with my family in the car and drive it to work on nice days. Oh yeah, and my $20k mint 85 notch will still walk a new GT500 for less than half the sticker price. Since I don't have $50k for a GT500 I stick with old faithful! Hey can you imagine what kind of bad-A fox body you could build even with $40k????!!!!!

well lets put it this way, put a max grip box on a fox, and put a max grip box on a sn95 or new edge, that fox is gonna drive circles around both of them

See, now you're just guessing because the Fox happens to be a little bit lighter as a general rule. That aside, does the SN95's stiffer and more rigid over all design, or waaaay superior brakes not work its way into the equation anywhere here? Sorry man, but unless you've got hard numbers to back that up, you're speculating at best. :shrug: After you’ve give the two cars the complete once over, they’ve essentially got the same suspension components anyway. In which case I’ll put my faith into less initial body flex, and the ability to repeatedly halt the car down from speed over a 150lb weight difference any day. :shrug:
