Im an NRA member from Texas. I own a 30.06, 20 ga, and a pellet gun. Nothing else. Don't see the need.
Edit** I was a member. My grandpa signed me up a year or two ago and Im sure I forgot to pay dues and am no longer a "current" member, but im sure you get the point I was trying to make above.
but guns are beside the point. What do YOU attribute the high gas prices to? I hardly think the root cause is a repulicrat issue... Hey, I like that - republicrat. I think that no matter who is in office, it will be a ridiculous stalemate anyway (like Mike eluded to above) so we may as well just all become republicrats.

I'm registered Democrat. I voted for Obama, and I hate (and still hate) GWB w/ a passion that makes any Obama hater pale by comparison.
Firstly, I am party to completely, and utterly hijacking the hell outta this thread.
Despite the choice I made in presidents, of the issues that define us as Democrat or Republican, I sway more to the republican side in my beliefs. I won't go into each detail on what I believe, but lets just say that I agree to most conservative values "with exceptions".
For instance: I agree. You have the right to own and bear arms. You can own hand guns, shotguns(for hunting) and any rifle designed (for hunting ) made. What you should not be able to own is any rifle intended to be put in the hands of the military for the sole purpose of "inflicting human casualties".
I "give" my half,....Despite the fact that all gun violence occurs w/ "approved" non-assault weapons, I still believe that it's the right of the people to own a gun. Cognizant of the fact that there are people out there right now that are legal, everyday folks that should NEVER have a hand gun in their purse, holster, or pocket. Put a gun in everybody's hand, and watch the violence escalate when an "argument" or a smart assed comment becomes a shooting. But like I said, I support the 2nd amendment,...with exceptions.
The other side, on the other hand, gives nothing. No exceptions. It's not enough to be able to own a 9mm composite Glock w/ a 30 round clip, you need an AK47, AR15 or any of the other weapons a google search can provide.

Well, yeah,....and then there's Bernie, who got called out for being a wimp by a co worker. Legal gun owner. Got pissed at a coworker and mowed down 6 people in his office because he was tired of taking s hit.
Bernie was a "future whack job". A time bomb that showed no outward evidence of his potential explosive yield. 40 years ago Bernie would've just hung himself. But now because it's so easy, Ole Bern just went into Dick's sporting Goods, filled out some paper work, and killed 6 people and himself 14 days later.
If there is a NRA supporting member that agrees w/ me on this, I'll be floored.
This is how come we view Washington and politicians as worthless, and all liars. They represent us. I put them there to support my beliefs, and you put them there to support yours. If I lose, and nothing gets done to support my beliefs you win, I elect another guy. My guys know that (as does yours). Because they don't wanna go home, and to be sure that they don't "lose the fight", they posture, and block. Compromise is a sign of weakness, and opens a door to more things being "taken away," so they dig in and refuse to move.
They tell us that it'll be different,....They tell us they can get it done,....Problem is,.... what you want, and what I want aren't always the same thing. It's why it's never gonna be different, and why nothing ever gets done.
Because I believe most of us are at least somewhat adult here: Mike, I'd have to say you're a pretty well thought individual and I agree with you on many points when it comes to vehicles, but we're gonna disagree on firearms. I own several of the firearms you would likely classify as an assault weapon, and quite frankly it's none of your damn business what all I own when I acquired them legally; I keep and shoot them for recreation, historical, and competitive reasons (kinda like owning a particular vehicle). Mine or anyone else's affiliation with groups such as the NRA are also none of your concern until I become a ridiculous braggard about it. Guess what else? I'm a legal CHL holder...and despite being severely pizzed off at people for nearly taking my bumper off or flipping me the bird or insert a reason to get angry or want to go off on some tangent or rant like such as yours (which incidentally are quite entertaining), I've never thought about pulling out my G23 or my Kimber Pro Carry and removing them from the gene pool. I keep firearms for the above listed reasons, and for my, my family, and my belonging's protection. And in case you weren't aware, the original purpose for the right to keep and bear arms IS FOR DEFENSE period dot. That's a pretty broad term too...defense of one's self, defense of one's family, defense of one's legal property, defense of one's legal way of life from a common enemy, defense of one's legal way of life as defined by a governing document from a tyrannical government.
There are many people I know that I feel probably shouldn't be able to own firearms-mostly criminals-but since they don't follow laws (that's why we call them criminals-they are LAWLESS), I'd like a fighting chance at parity. You don't bring a knife to a gunfight, I'm not a martial artist, and I can't dodge speeding bullets. But at least I can have a chance at fighting back against some effin clown who decides he wants me dead to take whatever of mine he wants. Make no mistake Mike, I'm not a violent man, but I'll be damned if I allow some jackass to kill me just so he can get away with what I've worked hard to acquire. If you want to offer yourself to the generic pool of what are potential to become a victim, that's your business, but if you want to cast stones at people for owning firearms contrary to what you think we "should" or "should not" do, you might want to step out of your own glass house. I don't like idiots any more than the next well-grounded adult, and by that, I mean people who go out and decide to have a killing rampage, or get a severe case of road rage and decide to shoot someone in the face at point blank range (this happened in my town recently-and he was convicted of murder with a 70 year sentence). But, don't you dare lump me in with those lunatics...
You want to cast your opinion out for something that wasn't even related to the thread, fine-expect a response...you obviously feel pretty strongly about what you think other people should or shouldn't do, well maybe you should take a peek through a jail once or twice...or see what criminals actually do to innocent people who just like to drive their cars around or go get lunch with their families or go withdraw money from an ATM to buy a bottle of wine for their next dinner...tit for tat bud...
BTW, how you feel about firearms is something completely personal-and has nothing to do with political affiliation. IF you happen to share beliefs with a particular political group, that doesn't mean you like or dislike firearms...or think they should be banned or whatever...

A 9MM will cut through two layers of wallboard like butter. Shoot at the bad guy in your kitchen and miss, and the bullet penetrates the wall board like it wasn't even there. Then it kills or injures one of your family members. Anyone who has anything more than pepper spray for self defense needs to take an annual combat confidence course for their own safety and the safety of their family and neighbors. Gun Control truly is hitting what you aim at...
To tell you the truth, I don't rightly know how I got so far down this road away from the original topic....guess I took a wrong turn somewhere.
I've already addressed people such as yourself that are level headed and responsible. Just because you are, doesn't mean that the schmuck down the street is as well. (Or the "picked on," bullied son of the schmuck down the street)
Because you would never consider selling your assault rifle to some highest bidder through the paper, or online doesn't mean that the same dude a block away won't do it when he cant make his mortgage, and doesn't care whether his buyer has a record as long as he has 900.00.
If your assault weapons are legal, and are semi automatic, how do they offer anymore security for you when the bad guy is in your house w/ a 9mm handgun w/ a 30 round clip pointed at your face? It's all about how fast you can pull the trigger isn't it?
Seems to me I'd prefer the ease of movement the handgun offers when protecting my home, property, and family.

Anyone who does not have a criminal record or a history of mental illness should be able to purchase any type of firearm that can be fired from the shoulder or hand. I also believe that they need to be proficient in its use so that they do not endanger those around them.Seems some people are forgetting the WHOLE 2nd amendment.
