Just finished MPH Vortech Mongoose kit install and have questions.

My fuel gauge is not working. I screwed something up swapping out the fuel pump. Do you guys have any tips for what to look for. Also, I went to get some gas and never went over 2500 rpm and it was only 70 degrees out and the blower seemed very hot. I could not keep my hand on it for more then a second. Is this normal? I can't imagine how hot it would be if I was beating on it.

as far as the gauge check the fuse first, then make absolutley sure everything is plugged in and then re-check the pump to see if the float is caught in some wires

BUT

wait for other respones first since i've only replaced fuel pumps on Volvo's and never a Mustang

Where is the fuel pump fuse? I cut the four wires following the vortech manual not realizing that the focus pump that came with the mph kit did not need that. So I might have a bad connection but I also want to know how the float is suppose to be positioned.

i meant maybe a fuse for the gauge, if it does have one it should be in your owners manual. i figure you'd check

now that you mention the cut wires i'd start there. what did you use to re-splice them? do you have a digital volt/ohm meter?

You probably damaged the lil sensor inside the basket for the float, it's not that uncommon a thing to happen. Yes, the blower should be that hot - remember, it's filled with engine oil! You should have two baskets, the one the new pump came in, and the original one that was in the tank right? Did you swap in the whole new basket in, or just the pump inside? You're only supposed to swap the pump inside.

I used those square metal male to female connectors. Yes I have a meter and I'm going to check for continuity.I want to know exactly how the float is suppose to be situated. It's got to be one of the two.

I just swapped out the pump. What does the sensor look like and do they sell them without the canister? Or would the one from the focus pump work?Say I drop the tank and start messing with stuff (with the inlet side of the fuel filter disconnected) and I wanted to turn the key(not turn the car on just turn the key to get a gauge reading) to see if what I did made the gauge work, would that energize the pump and start shooting gas out. One more question. Does it really matter below the oil filter which hole you tap into for the oil supply. There is one facing the ground and one facing the front of the car right next to each other. Thanks fellas.
