Just installed a C&L MAF on 2003 GT Vert..

Hey everyone,

I have a lightly modified 2003 GT Vert that I had a Mac CAI installed on. I was happy with the Mac CAI except for when it was time to clean the filter. I just got sick of getting under the car and taking off the filter, cleaning it and putting it back on. I purchase a 85mm C&L MAF Kit and installed it but I left the Mac CAI from the MAF to the throttle body installed. Everything fits fine and it seems to work just fine but I was not able to install the little black plastic peice that is suppost to sheild the heat.

My question is, will this be a problem with heat or does the shield not really make a difference?

C&L MAF

I just installed my 85mm Maf with the tru flo pipe. Did not put on the heat shield. Have the MAF and KN filter suspended with maybe 2 inches space all around. Noticed the pipe does pick up heat from the engine at idle, but after driving around and immediately opening the hood and feeling the pipe, it is cool to the touch even when the engine is HOT. I guess the air flowing thru is more of a factor than heat in the engine bay when driving?

I just look at the plastic cover and I can't imagine that it really protects heat. I can see where it might keep some dust and dirt from collecting on the filter really fast. I guess all the other people who have put on the C&L MAF have used the plastic cover.

I put mine on but can't imagine it would make any difference.

Oh wait! The difference is that you can put cool stickers on the heat sheild.

I've heard of people not needing heat shiels when they have their filter exposed to te engine and not having any negative effects. You'll be fine!

Sideout, why are you installing an aftermarket MAFS? Are you pegging your stock unit? Also, how often are you cleaning your filter? You only need to do it every 15,000 miles or so...10,000 if you're anal about it.
You guys and your MAF sensors. I don't know. It seems like if someone says something is the latest, greatest thing to do, everybody runs right out and buys whatever it is.
Now, if you have a need for a larger MAFS (cams, s/c, etc.), go with the Lightning unit. Much more affordable, and it's OEM engineered.
