or

can i do with this for now and wait to get the calipers..?

Have you priced Brembos? :notnice: I personally do not think any brake mod is worth the money other than pad/rotor replacement.

Yeah, I was thinkng the same. Ive seen people on here with just pads and rotors... they seemed to be content. Im just wondering if I'd get better stopping power with the calipers by brembo

and the brembo calipers are ridiculously expensive..

how much do the cobra calipers alone run?

Well, of course you would get better stopping power with Brembo, but seriously have you had any real issues with this?

You can get the Cobra kits from various online retailers, I think they run around $400-500 for everything but I am not sure.

No issues yet... but im planning serious forced induction for next year, and I want all of the preliminary stuff down first. Im thinking I might have to upgrade again, because the rotors I ordered- I dont know if theyre the 11 inch or 13 inch. Theyre brembo, but theyre for the 96-04 gt/v6-

Yeah I'd look into a Cobra kit before Brembo or Baer. You really get reemed on the price.

Im an impulsive buyer

but thanks for the replies...

I might keep the brembo rotors and hawk pads in the rear and in the future put a beefier rotor/caliper in the front if im not happy with the braking..

My bullitt upgrade is much better then my stock GT brakes. It may be different with a newer GT since you have 2 piston calipers as opposed to the earlier 1 piston junk. Its funny i've never driven a stock 99-04 gt with the stock brakes. Just a bullitt, cobras and gt's with brake mods.

Im sure they are alot better than my breaks it probably just that i didnt use them. Its just hard for me to spend $ on things that dont help my 1/4 time :rlaugh: . Come to think of it...I dont think i have anything that doesnt help my 1/4 time in some way lol. Eventually after the KB and built motor ill probably be the only person in the world with 500RWHP and stock GT breaks lol.

nah, we have a 8 second 5.4L turbo GT at my work with 1400hp that has stock GT brakes.

on that note, im going to order the 4 piston Cobra R brembos and cobra rear brakes for my 98 GT. i dont care about my 1/4 mile time because i dont care about drag racing that much. i like it dont get me wrong, but i would rather fling my car around corners than drive straight.

putting on the cobra rears is a pita. you have to take out the axles from the rear diff to bolt in the caliper mounting brackets...I still have my brackets and cobra rotors waiting to go on. I just had my rear filled with royal purple and don't feel like doing it again. So mine will sit til winter. You can do the baer/steeda 13" rear conversion...that a direct swap no need to remove axles. I'm sure you knew all this but i typed it anyway. :)

ya i know i gotta pull the axles, but thats a piece of cake to do, i can do that in my sleep. plus i have some extremely smart mustang people that i work with and we will just do it together. i dont like the 13" rear brakes, the main reason i would get teh cobra rears is because i can still go to the dealer and get the rotors, or go to tirerack and get the brembo OEM rears.

I would get Russell or Goodrich Stainless Steel brake lines while you're at it. They make a significant difference in brake pedal feel. They have also been proven to stop your car quicker b/c they handle higher hydraulic pressure without expanding.

I always found it humerous when people mention "upgrading the brakes, before upgrading to a supercharger."

Look, a stock GT can hit 120 easy. A blown GT can also hit 120 easy, just a bit faster. So what's the point? If you can't stop in time going 120 N/A, why think it'll matter if you can when you're blown? Regardless, if you feel you can't stop in time, don't follow other cars so closely.

Not that I'm against upgrading the brakes, just don't get why people think a car that gets to the same speed faster requires bigger brakes. It's not like you're gaining 100mph more of top speed.

no see your wrong because think of running. you can run about 10mph at teh same pace and stop no problem fast but when you start from a stop and sprint to the same speed and then try to stop when you reach that speed it is harder. so the faster you get to that speed the harder it is to stop. :nice:

The only reason Im upgrading these brakes is because when im going 70 i feel like i dont have any room to stop. theyre absolutely horrible

I dont need supercar brakes, just something to make me feel more confident when driving somewhat fast.
