Just secured $6,000 for a new KB SC.... questions...

Okay, got the money I needed and now I'm going to buy a Kenny Bell 1.7L 9psi with intercooler. Some questions...

I know the kit comes with intercooler and you don't have to tap the oil pan. It also comes with fuel injectors... I guess I need to come up with the plugs. (Too bad I have an extra set of brand new NGK Iridium IX TR55IX plugs [7164]. Can I use those or should I just leave those on the shelf and buy some colder plugs?)

I know a chip is included... is that good enough or is there a better chip/tune?

I have a 75mm Accufab TB and a K&N FIPK so I'm thinking those are good enough. How's the MAF make a difference (if it even does) and should I get a larger one?

I'm not doing any head work just yet so I don't expect enormous gains but I'm thinking I'll at least notice a significant differance... right?

I'm going to do this install myself. Do I really need a tune after putting in KB's chip?

Anything else I should know or be concerned about?

I'm not sure on this one....maybe post on the KB forum on Modularfords.

Most have said, including on the thread on MF's, that the stock KB tune is almost dead on.

You will need the 90mm LMAF that they sell. Or you can get one on your own. Your 80 (assuming it's stock) will be pegged.

most likely, they will recommend a range or two colder plugs. gapped less too of course so you dont blow them out.

i agree on the maf upgrade.

use the tune they give you, but HAVE THE A/F CHECKED. each car is different, im not sure what parameters kb adjusts, but its best to have it checked. its like 60 bucks to make a pull on the dyno and have them check your a/f from an o2 bung.

I think a wideband A/F sensor, such as the Anderson Ford Motor Sport UEGO 2000, is almost mandatory, if you are installing a supercharger.

I don't know what the percentage of KB owners who had problems with their tune, but I'm one of those who did have problems with the KB tune (maybe my car was an oddball), so I got a Pro Racer Package and XCal2 and did my own tuning.

if you have mmore then a few power mods then you should get a dyno tune to be safe. kb tunes were designed to be used on stock cars with just the supercharger i believe. i think i read that on their site, not 100% on that.

Just get a dyno tune after the install so you don't go boom. And yes you'll notice a power increase, in the form of an extra 80-100rwhp. Have fun you lucky bastard.

what I would do. sell you fpik. buy there kit and intake upgrades. then have thier tune verified or buy a wideband 02 to verify yourselft. I would make them tune your car%

I put a KB on a stock motor (02 2V) and had all sorts of problems. dont buy thier CAI, it sucks, too much MAF turbulence. Buy a wideband for sure and keep an eye on it. I must have got 6 chips from KB and ended up tuning it myself after my local dyno tune was bucking and detonating on shifts. Listen for detonation all the time.

Thanks for the info guys... some good stuff here. I'm like a kid a week before Christmas... I'm having a hard time sitting still. I figure I'm going to swap out my plug wires too while I'm at it. The ones I have now are about 3 years old.

I'm putting a 150 miles a day on my car right now so I want it mean... you can't imagine how many sport cars come after me on the commute from Denver.
