JUST TEST DROVE A 96 COBRA

Well I went to my local ford dealer so my g/f could look around to see what see liked seeing as she wants a new car. Anyways there was a 1996 cobra in the lot so I took a quick look at it. A salesman was on me like a fat kid with warm cake, and he asked me what I thought of it. So I started talking to him and explained I was just there to look around with my g/f for a car for her( NOT a cobra). Then he said that he would find out the price for ****s and giggles so I said "ok I guess". He came back and said $13,900!!!!......then he asked me if I wanted to test drive it so clearly I said "sure!". So he takes down some info and goes to get the keys. I get in and the first thing I noticed was how comfortable it was, really liked the interior. Second thing I liked was how good it handled and braked, very impressive. Then I asked the guy if he had any 03/04 cobras in stock or a lightning to test drive LOL, I think then he started to get the picture. After I asked him that I rolled into it abit and was NOT impressed at all. Seemed like it was reving fairly quick but I wasent going anywhere. At this point in time I have no desire to get a modular car at all. After driving it I got into my car and drove away slow then rolled into it just like I did to the cobra and all I have to say is supercharged 5.0's rule. :hail2:

Thats good to know. For the longest time now, I've been thinking about selling both of my foxes to get a modular cobra, 96-98. I would want it to be pre-supercharged though before I considered it.

im thinking of getting one.. but in all fairness your comparing a supercharged fox to a stock 96 4v cobra.. if you supercharger the cobra.. you'd talk differently lol i just really like the way they look

I can't tell you how much I love my 97 Cobra. But it's a completely different car than the 5.0. It handles much better. If you want the true experience, you have to let it rev high. You can't blip the throttle and expect it to take off like a 5.0 with gears. They don't get moving until 3,500 RPMs.

yeah, thats why i dont like turboes either lol, screw waiting for power, when you could just have the 5 foot long intake runners (lol exaduration) of teh fox and have all the low end you could possibly fream of.

i love teh fox, and teh fox loves me

You're comparing a blown 5.0 to a stock 4.6 Cobra? Go drive a stock 5.0 & then go back to the Cobra. The Cobra is worlds better.

I will agree on one thing, the stock 96-98 Cobra feels slow because it's horrendously under-geared. A set of 4.30's later, you're driving a car that runs like a raped ape.

What I remember about wrenching on modified Mustangs for a living was always running into the 5.0's rev limiter if I'd just finished on a 4.6 4V. I was always looking for that extra 1,000 rpm. :D

My firend has a 95 GT coupe and I have a 03 GT coupe. He said the powerband was night and day. He said the 2-Valve Mod motor has alot of topend.

I never drove a 4 Valve but Im sure it lacks low-end. Useally 4-valve engines have very short Intake runners. 5.0's have like 15 inches which is very long.

Do not confuse the smooth torque curve of the 4.6L as underpowered...

Yep, your comparison isn't to helpful;) I still bet a properly driven 96 Cobra would keep with it, if all's you have is a supercharger...

I've drove them, they own a stock 5.0L...two of my friends have the 96 Mystics...me like:nice:

Explain your CT then  :D

lol

The 96-98' cobra have thous wierd dual runner heads, and "secondary" throttle plates in the maniflod.I hear at like 3,500 or so rpm they "kick in" and they are pretty quick then.

CT is explained by a couple mods getting tired of me taking up for the 4.6L's after they get dissed. Just sarcasm on the CT. I like that, but I liked my old CT better: Official Defender of the 4.6L

:nice:

Yea,I know I saw your old CT....

But tell me what you think on this,

Ford 4.6 DOHC (newer style, single runner) vs. GM Nothstar 4.6
