Just traded my 67 GTA for an 2006 "Pony Package"

Well, yesterday I drove into one of the local Ford dealerships in my 1967 GTA convertible (an above average weekend driver), just to look around. It just so happened (fate I guess) that the owner of the dealership was standing there and flagged me down. Come to find out he had been looking for a 67 'Vert to restore, in his own private restoration shop, for his daughter when she graduates from high school next year. Long story short, tomorrow night I pick up my new 2006 Mustang Premium "Pony Package" V6 5 speed manual. Every option, black with gray leather.
For what I have in my 67, what he offered in trade value, plus "X plan" cost on the 06, I just couldn't pass it up. And, from my research on the net, it's the first "Pony" in town!
The vintage guys are going to hate me but I'm happy to be joining the new muscle car era. I'll post some pics of both cars in the next few days. Let the debate begin.

While I'm happy that you're getting a new car, I think your GTA has investment potential that far eclipses that of the 06. That dealer should have traded you even up or given you some money to boot for your rare and daily appreciating car..

is this a sick joke? I mean, come on, you didn't actually trade a 1967 Ford Mustang GTA Convertible for a v6 06. Vintage cars, when in a good condition, beat new cars any day of the week.

And how are you joining the "new muscle car era?" You got a v6.

If you had money to burn, I would have invested it either in some restoration or upgrades to the GTA, or I would have bought a used daily driver and kept the 'stang in the garage for special occasions.

I understand the rational. When I bought my 2005 V6 convertible I sold a 1993 Cadillac Allanté convertible (31,000 miles, 300hp Northstar engine). The Cadillac was perfect, but I was always scared to death I was going to get a ding in it, and finding parts was damn near impossible.

The 2005 Mustang is a real car that always runs, and if it should quit, it’s Ford’s problem. If your goal is to use an automobile and have fun, a new car beats the hell out of an old one.

An Allanté convertible with the Northstar... another wonderful car I would never part with (if I was lucky enough to own one).

I've got my '68 GT Fastback in the garage and bought an '05 MG GT to drive daily. Best of both worlds. The '68 is Red with blk int, toploader, 9inch rear, 4 bbl intake with high compression fact heads(J-code)....AND......original #2 condition paint! I'm holding onto that car for a looooong while.

I cant believe that you didnt get a new V6 Mustang + cash for a 67 GTA vert.

I think you will be happy with your new ride, I am with mine. And, to all of those who are cringing at the fact that you traded a vintage car for a new S197 I say hey that is what makes the world go round, different strokes for different folks! As far as the comment of 'being in the muscle car era you got a V6" I take personal offence to that" just because you have a V8 makes you the end all of muscle? Dude, my '05 V6 has a lot of potential and though the V8 GTs might be able to beat me stock versus stock that is not to say that by adding some mods to mine that I cannot take on GTs and beat them in a race. If it hasn't happened yet, don't be surprised when it will. Have fun with your new car as it has new technology and makes it so fun to drive as compared to something older! What is a GTA Mustang? I thought a GTA was a Thirdgen F-body

I was thinking GTA (as in Pontiac) myself, though I really don't know much about all of the rare collectibles prior to the mid 80's. I know about the 90s Pontiac Trans Am GTA. Was a Ford GTA made?

1967 was the only year that a GT was available in a classic with an Automatic Tranny.

GT-A = GT - Automatic

If it had a 390 in it, you got taken to the cleaners.
If it had a 289 in it, you got taken to the cleaners

People lose control of rational thought when they see something new and shiney that they just cannot live without.

What this person (if it really happened at all) has done was traded an appreciating asset for a depreciating asset.

Might as well trade a crisp $100 bill for a roll of quarters.

I have to agree with the rest of the group, is this indeed isn't some sort of dumb joke then that was a dumb move IMHO. I can't say you got taken because you knew what you were doing, but you could have sold a matching numbers GTA on the open market for enough to buy a loaded GT.
