Ok... so my buddy has a K&N in his baby... turns out he hasn't cleaned it yet and the car has about 25,000 miles with the unit installed....
What should I expect when I try to clean it for the first time? :bang:
Thanks in advance...

I hope I don't find and big black furry creatures from mars! :p

a pita time with the re-oil. I had to re-oil several times because I kept putting too much on it, then clean it all off.
How do you know if you put too much on? I just cover each pleat
with a nice coating and make sure the entire pleat is covered. No white
showing. How much is too much.

Just enough to turn the color of the white to pink. I usually let m ine sit out for a while so the excess drains off.

Fram filter....Walmart....$10.

I had a K&N for the longest time, and hated cleaning it. Plus I worried that oil would get on the MAF and throw off my readings.

And I didnt notice ANY change going from stock to K&N.....and then K&N to stock. No difference whatsoever.

25k miles is actually not even close to the recommended re-oil. K&N claims 50k/100k

OK, I may be wrong (wouldn't be the first time) but isn't the 100K their warranty period (or maybe it's 'one million' miles?)
Still, all the same, I clean and re-oil mine every three to six months...plenty of dirt (and sand here in FL) to be washed out. I check it at least once a month and, depending on how it looks, I let it go or give it a clean and re-oil.
As stated above, best bet is to re-oil then let stand on a newspaper for an hour or so, then wipe off any excess. Excess oil can and will contaminate your MAF sensor. We haven't had that problem on our GTs, though I admit I haven't checked, but it has been reported on this forum. It's not hard to clean the MAF sensor either, but it is delicate.
