I was dead set on getting tangelo pearl for my 66 mustang coupe but I saw a car show w/red to gold kameleon paint and I want it now. House Of Kolor has it but Im not sure how much to get...The lady from HOK said she thought that 2 quarts would be enough since it is 1 to 1 (? no idea). Do any of you have experience w/this---Is there a cheaper place to get it?Is there a cheaper brand that is good quality? I called the auto paint stores locally but no dice--thanks in advance
Joe

1 to 1 is paint to reducer. I take it that this a base/clear and the amount of paint depends on the coats/gun involved/area to be covered. HOK makes great paint, but it is expensive....and usually if you find a person that can paint HOK paints.....well they aren't cheap either.

I used HOK on mine and just shot my engine comaprtment myself. The paint is reduced 2:1.I bought 8 quarts originally for the body,at $130-150 a quart, you do the math, that doesnt include reuducer, clear, activator, primer etc.I just bought a quart for $99 because it was on the shelf.Theres a new company called Matrix.and their paint is pretty good.

it is an everyday driver and I dont smile If I get a chip on it but Im definately pissed....I know this is an expensive choice on my part but I guess Im just asking what company has the best bang for the buck on this kameleon type paint---What is that BASF---pics would be awesome if you could

Ouch! If you can find an old school painter, they used to make color shifting paint by mixing colors and using flakes in the paint to reflect the light differently. Not as perfect as the modern version but it could be done with paint costing a whole lot less. I think other paint companies are making versions of this paint; check DuPont.
