I just had an offer on my car. Not sure exact price, guy told me to name it, he has cash in hand. Just so happens a 99 Electric Green Cobra caught my eye today. I LOVE my Mystic. I just had hood, front, and rear bumpers repainted this summer. It is in overall good condition. It has 126k miles. I'd be selling then in search of the 99. Which do you guys prefer? Besides paint, what are the differences in these cars? I was planning on adding a set of 17x9 chrome 03 Cobras in the near future. I'll include one pic of my car and one of a Mystic with the 03's for comparison, along with a link to a f/s ad that caught my eye (wouldn't be THAT car, but one similar, wouldn't have the 03 bumper or same wheels).

Also still considering Saleen wheels for my Mystic if I keep it. Not set on the 99 EG, but it did catch my eye. I would be open to any Cobra for ~10k. My car is paid off, and I would not be spending any extra money on the new car. The Cobra is my dd, so even if I get a lower mileage car, it will get drove and end up with just as many dings, dents, and chips as my Mystic. I need to tell the guy something this weekend, so any comments are greatly appreciated.

New Edge Cobra's are rediculously sick, but not as sick as your Mystic in my opinion.

Take the money that you would have to spend to purchase the 99, and set it aside for an engine/trans rebuild fund so if something goes wrong in the future you have it covered. Not to mention it's a perfect excuse to upgrade.

I'm just not use to having a vehicle like this. Everything I've ever had was a PITA to sell. With this car I keep having this type of situation come up where someone tells me to name my price. I know it is worth something now, but not sure how long it will hold value since it is being used as a dd. Thanks for the compliments. I need some new pics, the one I posted isn't that great. I'm in love with the one with the 03 Cobras, I'll be adding them (or possibly 18x9 Saleens) when I get my Christmas bonus, assuming that I do keep it.

i would invest in a 3M clear vinyl bra if you havent done so already

I've looked at the 3m stuff, kinda wishing I would have now. I had the front and rear bumpers, hood, and side skirts repainted for $1200. I know the side skirts added atleast $200 of that price. I got a quote on the hood and front bumper ONLY (not the rear) for the 3m, $850! I said screw that, I'll drive it as it then do another repaint. I've heard from some that used it that it yellows over time. Reviews are about 50/50 on it, and for that kinda money it isn't worth the chance.

didnt realize there was that as a side effect. thats really unfortunate

Well, looks unanimous. My first truck was a 90 GMC with tons of goodies. Tranny went out (had been rebuilt less than a year before) and that was all I could stand. I babied the truck (6 inch lift and 35's, but never saw a gravel road, much less mud). Due to reliability and gas prices, I had to sell. The bright side is that I got a 4runner which I traded for my Mystic, so it worked out, but I still miss that truck. My car still runs strong, doesn't use oil, modded to suit me (still doing wheels, but that is about it), and Mustang fan or not, people find it attractive. Does the 99 have IRS, and if so, would that be better or worse on a dd? Thanks everyone, this input really helps.

No! Get the 99! And sell your Cobra to me!! How much would you sell that thing for anyway?

Really though, I'd say unless you're a bigger fan of the 99 New Edge style over the 96, then go with the 99, but if not, your 96 is alot higher on the totem pole IMO.

I'd think IRS would be much nicer for a DD, from what I understand it's during drag racing its negatives come into effect.

i like the new edge better too normally, but your car is special with the color. i say KEEP the mystic and get a 94 tauras like i have for 1200 bucks to keep the mystic as the weekend or go out car. use the tauras as the dd and keep the value of the mystic high.

I sold my 96 Cobra and bought an 03. My 03 is better in almost every single area then the 96. That being said, I loved my 96 more :(

I have about 8k in it. I traded a 97 2wd Toyota 4runner for it (paid $5900 for less than a year before) and $750 cash. I spent $1200 on the new paint. Just spent $200 on new rear brakes. Spent about $300 on head lights, fog lights, cobra emblem for the front, shorty antenna, and new corner bulbs. I've been told it is worth ~$10k. That being said, only way I would sell is if the guy was willing to pay more than 10k, probably would take 12k to interest me. So, come out of the deal $4k ahead, not bad, and money talks. That is the only reason for the swap. I'm gonna grit my teeth and call the guy back today to tell him it isn't for sale, regardless. I don't hit the track much, so no real negative there for the IRS. I don't plan on adding big power, just plan to keep it running, so no negative there for IRS either. BUT, the only reason I got the car is because of the paint. I am still in love with it, and you guys have helped me tremendously. Thank you!
