i am thinking of getting a KB 1.7 for my 01 GT. i was planning on running the non intercooled kit, but i have been told that it is hard to get power w/o the cooler. is anyone running the KB with no cooler amd if so how is your performance? would you buy it again, and is there anything you would suggest i do at the same time that i put the supercharger on?
thanks
ben

6 PSI non-IC usually gives about 300-340hp, though some have put down better or worse #s.

The IC'ed 9 PSI kit is the better option, IMO. But if that proves to be too much $$ for now, the non-IC'ed 6 PSI kit should suffice; I'm sure you'll still enjoy it. You can always add the IC later.

I've got the 6psi with 4:10s in the ass.

340rwhp...we gained 115rwhp

I would do it again in a second.

If you're contemplating new valve/cam covers...do it at the same time.

Expect a future brake upgrade...you'll want one...and susp. upgrade if you haven't already.

can i run a non IC kit with 9 psi? i would like to get as close to 400hp as possible

Anything over 6 PSI w/o an IC on pump gas is asking for it. 7 PSI is about the highest I've seen w/o an IC; and that's still very risky IMO.

I wouldn't go above 6, unless I want a good excuse to buy a new built motor.

I have the 6lb kit. Put down 325rwhp, 305rwtq on a VERY humid day. Quality wise, the kit is awesome, looks factory under the hood. I was a little disappointed in the torque numbers. I put down 290rwtq N/A. At 6lbs the blower is very inefficient. It takes 4lbs of boost just to overcome having to turn the blower. I will be upgrading to the 9lb intercooled soon.

not to highjack the thread.. but where is the best place to purchase the 1.7 9 psi kb kit intercooled?

Seems like thats the best deal going.
Great blower, but if you consider that the best deal going from a financial aspect, you need to shop around a little more. ;) I'll give you two words to send you in the right direction......Centrifugal Mongoose. :nice:

I've seen some one get 360 RWHP with the non-intercooled.
I'll guarantee that you didn't see any non intercooled KB's making that amount of power with a bone stock car. There were definitely upgrades done to the exhaust and intake to see those kinds of numbers. Bolt-ons (even seemingly minor ones) go a long way when supercharging. Stock as a rock and 6psi, 330rwhp would be generous and between 310-320rwhp would be the norm.

I've seen some one get 360 RWHP with the non-intercooled. But with the Intercooler everyone gets above 400H.P. Check out www.modularfords.com's Kenne Bell Forum it helps alot!!
you better do some more research.........ALOT of customers were failing to hit the 400 mark with the 9# kit.........
