kenne bell 1.7 question

I put down 376rwhp with my automatic and stock gears. This is my daily driver so tune is conservative, meaning not as much timing dialed in and A/F at WOT is 11:1. See sig for mods.

theh best #'s I was able to get out of my GT were 390hp/420tq and that was @ 10#. I had the full KB option kit. I was one of the first in the country to get the kit along with El_Kid, BC, and Red Dragon. We were truley the guinea pigs. The 01's always make less power because of a head machining problem, so the compression was a tad higher that year. This lead to having to retard the timing to keep the pinging away.

I'll guarantee that you didn't see any non intercooled KB's making that amount of power with a bone stock car. There were definitely upgrades done to the exhaust and intake to see those kinds of numbers. Bolt-ons (even seemingly minor ones) go a long way when supercharging. Stock as a rock and 6psi, 330rwhp would be generous and between 310-320rwhp would be the norm.

Who plans on putting a KB on that doesnt already have a upgraded exaust and intake? Not to many if any. And its not my fault that some of them bought Automatics. Why not just get a Honda.

I havent seen any one get under 398.6 RWHP with the intercooled 1.7 KB(i'm sure they had Exaust upgrades and intake, but who doesnt, and if you dont you should think about it)

Just my thought

Perhaps you should look closer. That's contrary to my observations on several boards.

.... I didn't. Those who get over 400 usually have

A. all the KB options

B. moderate # of bolt on mods like mid-pipe, headers, etc.

C. doesn't hurt to have a 5-speed as well...

I can concur with this point.

You don't need any intake upgrades other than possibly a TB with the KB kit ( assuming you buy the big tube/cold air/maf). The KB replaces the upper.

thats got to be the most retarded thing i've read all day! Because someone has an auto they are not worthy of a mustang? All mods being equal a built auto will spank the manual every time.....no loss of boost between shifts = your manual shifting ass is toast. Go to your local track and see what the fast cars are running....most will be auto's.

A well respected stangnet member who goes by the name of Jim Fitz once said, "fast auto > slow manual"

And ignorant remarks like yours just prove you're not a car enthusiast. You're just a 2F2F ricer in disguise.

i agree the two people above me about the auto's mine is a auto and the shifts are as consistant as they should be ever since i installed the predator tune and tweaked the shifts and i will never miss a shift and go see at the track most high horsepower cars have auto's with shift kit's high stall converters and fully built trannies  ............that is :nono: talking smack about the auto's

That's fine, and I'm well aware of what it takes to make those numbers. Just as long as we're clear that getting 360rwhp out of a 6lb KB kit takes not only the blower, but nearly all of major/minor bolt ons....not just the blower kit alone, like your previous statement implied. The same holds true for the intercooled 9psi kit. Most owners aren't seeing 400rwhp on bone-stock cars alone. It takes the blower and bolt ons to see those numbers. Even opting for their "big tube" kit in most instances still doesn't guarantee 400rwhp. :)

....and the auto comment was just kinda stupid. :nonono:
