Got the Kenne Bell 2.1 Blowzilla installed today, wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Got everything hooked up and attempted the first start. She cranks over but will not fire. Getting good spark and fuel pressure gauge shows 35 psi while cranking. Pulled a plug and it is soaked, getting way too much fuel. Not sure what I can do to get her started to get her to the dyno shop for a tune. Anyone run into this before? Other mods just installed are:
42 lb Bosch Green Giant injectors
Pro M 75mm MAF calibrated for 42#
Holley adjustable FPR
Thanks guys

If you hold the gas pedal to the floor (wot) it shuts the injectors off while cranking. give this a try. i certainly would not lower the fuel pressure any farther. Is the mass air plugged all the way in? (seen it before)

Even if the Maf wasn't plugged in, it should still start.. Run like crap prob, but it should run

If you really get into a pickle and can't get this going to get it to the tuner then send me a PM. I "think" I still have a MAF sitting around that is calbrated for 42s. It won't make the car run great but it will at least run. I can loan it to you so that you can get the car to where it needs to be. I'll just have to lay hands on the thing if you tell me you need it.

In other news: Once you do get it running, please please please, disconnect the bypass valve and safety wire the valve to the bypass position for your ride to the tuner. If you have the unit with no bypass then you will need to baby the car and ensure you stay out of boost until you get it to the tuner and they get base settings loaded.

Noobz, appreciate the offer. I installed a Pro M MAF calibrated for 42#...kinda figured it would run. If for some reason the new MAF is an issue, I will PM you. Thanks again.
My KB does have the bypass, I'll have to look and see if it's normally open or closed. It looks like the actuation signal is boost pressure to close it so all I would have to do is disconnect and plug the tubing. My tuner told me the same thing...stay out of the gas (as tempting as it may be) until it gets tuned.

Once you get the thing to idle (regardless of how crappy), just observe the position of the bypass valve. Disconnect it and wire it to that same position and you'll be fine. :nice:

When I did mine, it ran pig rich and would barely idle. I just got lucky in that concern. I still trailored it to the tuner though.

Talked to my tuner. He said to bring the fuel psi down to 25 and hold gas pedal WOT to dry out cylinders while cranking. He said this is not unusual. He said if I can't get it, he will come to my house and burn a chip and tune to get it started, kinda cool :)
Noobz, how do you like the KB blower?
I forgot to mention I did install a set of new Autolite copper core plugs 1 heat range cooler.....

I am definitely a fan to say the least. LOL

I only wish that they'd taken the time to make much larger blowers for pushrods and designed an intercooler. O_o It rarely sees track time and on the street, it's an absolute beast. :nice:

Here's a pic of the install. Now to get her started....

Almost got her to fire tonight. Turned fuel pressure way down and put stock MAF back on. Definitely know it's too much fuel. Just not sure which change made the difference. Gonna put PRO M MAF back in tomorrow and see if that makes it worse....

KB isn't even in the pushrod business anymore. There are probably a few in inventory on some shelves but they aren't making new ones for us.

Put the 42# MAF back on, trying backing down the fuel a bit more, then WOT during start up. If all is well it should at least start and running crappy. You mess with the distributor at all?

Agreed, if the distributor is in right, the meter works correctly and you have the right injectors it should start up (unless you messed with something else), regardless of the fuel pressure.

I don't see how burning a chip is going to make it run, these and other blowers have been used pretty much forever without chips, so while you can tweak it with a chip, it still should run without one.

I did pull the dizzy but I marked the rotor position on the housing and marked dizzy base/block. Installed it in the same spot so all marks lined up, that should have put timing pretty close. Double checked all wires are on correct cylinders, left them attached to cap. First thing I was gonna do when she fired was check timing and set fuel psi.
I thought she would fire without issue, maybe run like crap until tuned. Gonna bring #1 cylinder to TDC and check rotor/damper position just for grins.

Just went out and checked dizzy. Used remote start switch to bump motor until 0 degrees on crank showed, with a compression tester stuck in #1 cylinder and showing pressure. Rotor is pointing at #1 cap terminal.
Didn't mess with anything outside the KB install except adding the FPR, 42 injectors and 42# MAF. Install was pretty straightforward....

I'd suspect the meter is the problem, while i love pro m, pmas meters, they aren't immune to defects and problems.
A KB isn't much more than an intake swap from a mechanical standpoint.

If you still have your 19's, i'd put them back in with the 19lb meter and see if it runs.
