I am looking at possibly purchasing a used Kenne Bell for my Cobra. The problem is that it came off an '87 5.0 and is set up for a stock lower intake, not for a Cobra/GT40 lower. The good news is that it comes with a stock lower that has been extrude honed and ported. How much less does that intake flow than my Cobra lower? Also, the Kenne was purchased for a car that does not have A/C; mine does and I don't want to lose it. I am guessing that I would need to get the appropriate bracket and belt? Any ideas or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

The Kenne Bell supercharger will bolt to either the GT-40/Cobra lower or the stock 5.0 lower. The bolt patterns are the same. Do not know if an extrude honed stock lower will flow as much as a GT-40/Cobra lower. As long as you have all of the directions for the install on the 94/95 car, then it will show what has to be done to the brackets to make the kit work with your application. It will also show what belt to purchase.

Wow. That is very good to know. I know that you have to specify which intake you have when ordering new. They open pretty soon and I will be calling them directly to gather more information. If everything will work out, my car will be running a Kenne Bell in the very near future.

Sure, provided you order the kit to work with one, or the other when buying it new. The fit between them is not universal. There's no way to bolt the Kenne Bell stock style upper, to the Cobra lower. The runners don't line up.

OP....the ported/extrude honed stock lower will probably flow pretty close to the Cobra lower. It's not worth letting the kit go over discrepancies in intake manifolds. You'll still make well over 300hp at the wheels with the stock lower and you could always sell your current intake to reimburse you some of the swap costs.

Well hell, I just got an email from Kenne Bell telling me that the 86-93 kits will not work on the 94-95's... I am still trying to get through to talk to someone though.

Well the accessory brackets are different. I believe the shaft is located in the same place on both vehicles if I remember correctly (driver side next to distributor). If you can buy 94-95 accessory brackets it should work. Should work with your stock GT40 lower intake too.

The kit can be made to work with the right bracketry. The engines are basically the same....you'll just have to make a few parts. If worst comes to worst, you'll have to go with the '87-'93 front accessory drives.

They told me the same thing when I was going to put one of their kits on my Cougar. "Nope....can't be done. We won't even sell it to you if you don't own a Mustang" (No bull) Low and behold, one of the guys on our local forum got a hold of one of their kits a couple of years and later and what do you know....bolted right up, with very little fuss.

How will it possibly work with his GT40 lower when the runners are staggered, vs the stocker where they run in line? I don't even think they'll physically bolt together, but the bigger issue is going to be the runner alignment. It'll be so mismatched he'll never get it to seat up?

Just look at the differences between the intakes below (disregard the truck intake in the middle)

Yep, Gearbanger is right: the runners won't line up.

The extrude honed GT lower will not come close to flowing what the stock Cobra does. It will cost you more to swap your car over to fox brackets, timing cover and water pump that it's worth. There is no kind of making it work either, the SN engine is a full 3" shorter than a Fox engine. If you already bought the blower, I suggest re selling it. Or you can price out what parts you need for that blower to make it work with a Cobra intake and SN accesories. I doubt that will be cost effective either.

I suppose if he went all brand new that would be true. I've seen used Fox engines go for as little as $200-$300 though. That should have the timing cover and just about all of the front end componenets and bracketry he would need to make it work? That's not much of an investment assuming he got the kit for a good price? Especially when you consider they're selling for over $3,000 new.

No, I haven't bought the kit. I just emailed a guy who swapped his Kenne Bell from a Fox to an '94. His initial response was that it would work if you switched out the drive snout, which is shorter on the 94-95's. I am waiting for a follow up email to get more information.

Then there is buying a new belt, getting new power steering hoses, buying a new water pump, buying a new tensioner, having custom AC lines made, clearancing the fan, etc, etc, etc. Unless you got the Kenne Bell for free, it's cheaper to pass and find a better deal.

I was wrong on this, the bolt pattern is the same, but obviously the runners do not line up. i forgot that the Kenne Bell outlet manifold is not "open" and instead is runner specific. Should have looked at the one on my workbench before replying. Sorry.

Oh, I thought that he mentioned it was the GT40 KB unit which is why he was getting it (94 Cobra).

I finally got through to KB. It is compatible but the snout and bracket have to be changed over for $359 and $75, respectively. The intake can be swapped out as well so it will bolt right up to my lower for another $500. So, by the time I buy the blower and convert everything over, it is going to cost more than a new blower with warranty would be. And, it just sold.

You are better off just waiting on a 94-95 kit so its not a bad thing it sold. With the 94-95 kit you will keep AC no issues. The only thing that comes up is coil mounting and swapping to the fox upper radiator hose. It is a really easy install. Well worth it if you can find one for the right price.

The entry level KB set up uses a stock 5.0 intake but if you step up to the Flowzilla option you need the GT-40 manifold to make that one work i had to change that over on my set up.

Used KB's are nearly impossible to find right now. I see all kinds of for sale threads from a couple of months ago but there is absolutely nothing available right now. Vortechs are a dime a dozen though.

i bought a fox kit for mine, all i needed to order was the snout and bracket total cost to install the blower was about 1300$ and that was including the 800$ i paid for just the blower with no snout, and no it wont bolt on to your cobra lower. but if you can get a good deal jump on it the bracket and snout to convert a fox to sn95 is about 500$ and that was polished, and someone above said wait for a sn95 well you will be waiting along time my friend because they are never for sale
