Kick panel Speakers - AC Vent problem?

I have the Vintage Air Kit with the round under dash vents in the corners by the kick panels. I installed small 4" speakers in my kick panels with 3/4" spacers.

Anyone have the premolded kickpanels for 6 1/2" speakers? How much room is there from the bottom of the dash to the top of the speaker? I need about 3-4" for the vent assemblies.

Thanks.

kick panel

i too have the vintage system in my 65 vert. My kick panels have the premolded 6.5 speaker opening. Have not installed speakers not the AC duct grill as there are clearance issues with the larger speaker. I am not sure what i am going to do. May have to try to modify the dust to fit around the opening or may have to custom make kick panels with speakers lower and moved forward. When i get the car back from touching up paint, i'll take some photos of that area.

Thanks for the input.

I've seen on another forum where it says they wont fit. :(

I'm thinkin' I'll just make wood spacers like I did with the existing 4" speakers in there. That way I can place them where they wont interfere with the vents. Since I have a black interior, I can match the paint easy and get away with not having the same texture 'cause it's so dark.

A custom kick panel that houses the speakers and vents would be cool. Maybe someday I'll get into fiberglassing.:nice:

I have the Vintage kit and installed kick panels with speakers.

I basically ditched the 2 side vents and plugged outputs going to the side vents. Air works great and blows hard out of the 2 center vents.

Worked for me

I just put the kick panel w/ speakers and the Vintage Air vents on my 65. No issues. I mounted the vents using the two holes up into the dash and didn't put any holes in the kick panels They seem pretty sturdy and fit fine. Was even able to remove the kick panels without taking off the vents (carefully). Can't wait to get the car running!

Where did you get the kick panels?

Are they 6 1/2"?

Did they come with the speakers?

If so what brand? watts?

Picture?

Thanks

I have been looking at component speakers for this area as they tend to be thinner. You will only have about 1 1/4" depth with the kickpanels with 6 1/2 openings. I found a pair of speakers that are 2" deep, but would need spacers. I have used a stereo shop here in dallas to do my other vehicles for years. They sell molded kick panels for late model cars. I think i am going to ask them about doing something for this car. I just cant see any good way to mount either side vent with the speaker in the way. I suppose you could cut the vent, but not sure that would look ok.

"Dewdrop" do you have photos of what you did?

Problem resolved

I bought a set of Infinity 6 1/2" Reference 6012i for the kick panels ($79)

The install depth is 1 15/16” I was able to get away with using the same method I mounted my 4” ones in there using 3/4" wood spacer. The Magnet diameter was about 3/8” bigger than the door hinge plate access holes, so I did a little “percussion engineering”. That allowed the speaker to drop in place. The AC vents needed only a tad bit of trimming on the flanges.

BTW they sound GREAT and the price made me want to go back and get a set of matching 6x9s for the rear, but the Kenwoods I now have are doing ok. It'll be a while before I get the urge to add an amp & subwoofers.:nice:
