Kill Switch

Hey all,

I am going to hook up a kill switch to the unused neutral safety switch.
I plan on using a toggle switch and mounting in a hidden spot.

My question is what toggle switch to get.
15 or 20 AMP??
Or a different one?

i was thinking of doing the same thing. sorry im not sure what kind of switch you would want to use. but wouldnt you still be able to hot-wire the car at the solenoid?

*cough I did it *cough and used a 20A and it works great! very hidden and no one knows where it is because I can flick it with a standard move of my hand doing something else that you normally do when starting a car.... i will let you chew on that for a while

So you put it over by the seatbelt too?

How bout just under or to the side of the ignition itself, so you can turn the key and swipe the toggle in one motion. Not a long bulky toggle but a short low profile one.

all you do is take apart the back of the socket,drill for a small switch and use the push in element to activate it.

i put it on my ebrake bracket (you cant even see it unless you know its there) and before i start the car I release the brake and when I stop I set the brake. only thing you hear is a click.

If you have an MSD box.....you can't hot wire. there are two types of ignition switch's on an MSD. If you take the one you don't use, and ground it out, the box won't turn on. That is a good kill switch. To acutally hot witre it, you'd have to know about it, and cut the wire or find it, then hot wire it.

Yes, the lockout only prevents the starter from turning over, otherwise your car would die when you put it in gear. Since part of hotwiring at the solenoid is to crank the starter, that particular kill switch won't prevent the car from starting. One of the best circuits for a switch is the wire leading to your distributor.

Didn't you buy a Painless Perfomance kit? If so just use that 50amp "maxi-fuse", if you locate it correctly there's no currrent that can get anywhere near your starter or ignition, so a hot-wire is out of the question.

When I read "kill switch" I thought you meant the one required by dragstrip sanctioning bodies.

Nope, Don’t have the painless kit and it’s not for a racing type application.

Someone mentioned a kill switch for security purposes in another thread.
So I was wondering about that.
But it sounds like a person can still hotwire it at the solenoid.

IMO, the best place for a security related (anti-theft) electrical device would be between the battery + and the fuse box. That will disable just about everything, most important of which is the ignition. They can still crank the starter but she wont fire. If you go that route consider using a giant fuse instead of a switch, then you get another kind of security, the one from electrical fire.

If you fear your car being stolen, please realize that they'll most likely tow it away with a flatbed anyhow.

You could rig the dimmer switch(on the floor) to kill the car, or power the electric fuel pump etc. The cigarette lighter, you could probably rig it to be a push start buttom for the car?

yeah,
I know if someone wants it bad enough they can get it, or tow it.

I was just looking at a simple kill that might stop the not so smart thief.
