I don't know. 1500 mile burnouts sound a bit extreme to me!

I just put in a King Cobra last week and so far it's holding up on me. From everything I've read it sounds like some kind of contamination like oil or grease would cause that. The only other thing that I can think of is if you had your adjustment too tight you might be engaging the clutch a little bit even though your foot is off of the pedal. You might want to give the cable a little more slack to see if that helps. Good luck.

i dont think break-in is the issue. When i installed mine, about 2 years ago, i was stupid, did a huge burnout, and while i was at it, managed to smoke the clutch....i mean SMOKE....and it has lasted 2 years since then, and has held upto some serious power....it dosent slip currently, and dident slip at 500rwhp on the dyno(i dont think).

lol i dont care what kinda burnouts your doing, i would not do any during breakin. You dont wanna do anything to get the clutch real hott during break in, and any type of clutch drop should accomplish that. maybe u got lucky on your last clutch. I also have the king cobra and i feel like its performance has decreased but i have been racing on mine so thats probably why. Mine still chatters too, grrr

I think your rear main has sprung a leak. It doesn't take much to ruin a clutch. But before pulling the trans i would try loostening up the cable to to be sure you are not riding the clutch all the time.

Oh and take it easy too as I had a clutch do that in a truck and not even 1000 miles after noticing it would slip (100 miles a day) it dies all at once and I was stuck in a parking lot that i was lucky to coast into...

When I installed the KC clutch in my other car the first thing I did was race it around the block and then 10 min later I let my friend race it around the block. I didn't really break it in that well, but it still held strong for 3 years of punishment and was holding strong when I sold the car.

I was so happy with that clutch that I just put one in my new car about a week ago and am currently breaking it in. The sheet it comes with says 500 miles, and I have got about 220 on it so far, I don't think I will baby it past 250, they always over-rate those things for idiots like me.

but yeah it sounds like you have contamination on your flywheel/clutch. You cleaned all the fingerprints and smudges off with break cleaner (not engine degreaser) right? I didn't bother changing the rear main on mine because last time it wasn't leaking and I change it to find out I had created a leak.

The KC clutches can take some abuse pretty much right away, even if it's not recommended. And they will last also. I had a Spec stage1 in summer of 94, and burned it in less than 1000 miles. Burnouts and drag races right away without the 500miles breaking period....Like everyone saud, make sure your clutch cable isnt too tight (engaging it all the time).
