Are these or any other of the higher end air filters really worth the money, anyone know if they do improve horsepower?? discuss

Yes and yes. One of the major Stang mags did a test and found a stock filter box with the silencer removed and a K&N flowed enough air to support over 300 horsepower. No need for a bling CAI unless you just like the way it looks. I've had K&N in my Mustangs since 1985.

I think the panel ones are worth the money. Plus they are re-cleanable so you never have to buy another one.

If I were you i'd buy one...the carberatured ones look sweet.

From a cost point, the K&N are great. You spend $45 once and buy a recharge kit for $10 which will last you 80,000 miles before you need to buy another kit, unless you live in a dusty area and clean your filter more often.

There are other's but they are not as good or well known as K&N.

Most of the other companies manufacture the conical ones for Japanese cars. I haven't heard of these same companies offering the panels for a stock foxbody Mustang box.

The only drawback to the K&N is when people clean and oil them it can be easy to over oil the filter which ends up gettiing sucked into the MAF and causing issues. I am speed density so I just oil the hell out of mine and call it done.

I have one that I will ship to you for $25, insured Priority Mail. Price is about $15-20 off parts store price, and will be there in 2-3 days of payment receipt.

It has one year of usage, but it is in great shape, and since it is cleanable, you can clean it if need be. Generally can go several 10's of thousands of miles without cleaning.

Annyway, $25 for K&N panel filter for mass air fox body (out of my '93).

K&N filters are the way to go. I noticed a difference when I installed one in my car, truck, and even my atv.

I bought one because I heard from everyone that it helps a little. I didn't notice any gains, but I like that it can be recharged, as mentioned before.

I bought mine for the reason it was known to flow better and definitely the fact that it can be cleaned and reused and reused and reused.....

One area you most definitely will start noticing a difference with the K&N is with forced induction. The more boost you are cramming into that engine and the more air that "needs" to flow - then the bigger the gains will be exponentially.

I love K&N. I have them on both my cars. I put one on my racecar and it actually picked up a tad because the air filter stick up in the hood scoop forcing the air in the carb.

whats the actual proper way to re-oil an aftermarket filter? how much and what kind of oil?? thanks

I would assume the proper way would be to get a kit from K&N (autozone, advance, etc) and follow the directions. I'd err on the side of caution in terms of deciding how much oil to use...probably would clean my MAF wire at that time as well (GENTLY clean it).

I would get a BMC filter if anything. Anyone that tells you their car felt faster after a K&N because their stock filter had to be clogged as hell. Even you gain the claimed 5HP you will NOT feel anything at all. Bring your car to a dyno and test it with a new stock filter and then a K&N. You will be suprised. The K&N is actually more restrictive than a clean stocker. Therefore, the new stocker will flow more air than the k&n.
BMC is by far the BEST filter you can buy. They are expensive but they flow air very well. You cant beat it. Thats why they come standard in all Ferrari's.
