knocking sound

My mustang hasnt been drove alot the past few months and i just fired it up and took it for a ride and noticed a knocking sound. the gas was only about 2 weeks old and its 93 octane so i dont believe its detonation but, i cant tell exactly what the noise is sounds like its coming from the driver side in the head. the power seems like its all still there but i am weary to get on it much could it be the rockers or lifters?? or even a bad exhaust leak im just hoping its not a bearing or rod? any comments are helpful. thanks

knocking is usally bottom end noise. ticking can be a exhaust or lifter/rocker issue.

Knocking is not a good sound, Does it have oil, Is the oil new or recently changed. Need to narrow it down on where its coming from... wether the top of the motor or bottom end.

Fram oil filter maybe?

just changed the oil it was a little bit low seems like its coming from the top as far as i can tell. not so much as a knock but i very loud tick pretty sure its not exhaust because i just fixed a leak and this is a different sound. im just looking for some comments before i tear into it. where would be the best place to start looking? i just dont have the time this week with final exams.

pull the rocker covers off and check stuff out. Hopefully just an exhaust leak

put your ear next to the valve cover and see if you can hear the noise.
