largest cam in a 86?

I'm putting 4vr pistons in it so I should beable to run 1.7rr's with the e303.or the 1.6rr's with the tfs1 but does the tfs1 have a good exhaust tone?

Since no one really knows how to answer my first questions, here's another for you.

So you're going to use notched pistons... good idea.
You talk about using 1.7 ratio rockers... could be good, could be bad.
What springs are you going to use and where are you from coil bind?

You really need to check your PTV measurement everytime you build an engine.
You need to check coil bind everytime you build an engine.

I will say this; no two engines will be the same. If you take someone's word with your engine... good luck with that.

what was your first question?? about a lift of an inch not being a problem with clearance???? well thats because the piston is at the bottom of the cylinder =) no matter what you should always check pvc like you said. upgrade springs.

I'll give another hint; I can have a camshaft with 1.0" of lift and it won't hit the piston...

i did alot of research before i did the head swap on mine. I went with ported E7 and left the cam stock... Just herd of people hitting with that setup...

Doesn't matter what ever he decides he is going to have to check PTV clearance or clay em... Thats the only way for sure! every engine is different

smart move. stock grinds are normally pretty good

Is this seriously a question?

Hint; so are the valves. I suppose you need it spelled out for you.....
Depending on which camshaft you utilize.......the intake valve actually begins opening before the piston reaches TDC (Top Dead Center). If the wrong cam is chosen or possibly the wrong rocker arms or both....... The valve can actually be extended into the cylinder too far and get hit by that big slug of aluminum pumping up and down.....The inverse of that is exhaust side (Which is more common) the valve will not be closed enough and that big slug of aluminum will hit it. Now........Valve reliefs (Notches cut into the top of the big aluminum slug thingy) allow for just a little more room........or a bigger cam....

Trickflow heads with stage 1 cam is rumoured to work with stock 86 pistons
Some say stock cam is already very good.
I am currently building my 86
75mm tb, GT 40 manifold port matched, 30lb inject
X pipe, long headers
3:90 gear, underdrive pully
Probably need mass air conversion
Very few dyno shops in this part of Canada
