Just wondered what tips you seasoned drag racers have for launching an auto? My factory tires seem to break loose at about 1800 rpms. I experimented a little with different launch rpms but seemed to do the best just under 1800. I know drag radials would be a big help and would probably let me squeeze out a few hundred more rpm's before the tires would start to spin. Also, does anyone shift the auto themselves (stock valve-body and converter)? Again, I'm thinking the predator would help out alot as far as setting shift points, shift firmness, etc.

Unless you have a shift kit, don't shift the trans yourself. A great mod for your autotrans is the J-mod, which really helps to firm up shifts and I don't think it is too hard to do. The predator will also help you tweak your shift points for best performance. If you really want a good leap off the line, a 3000rpm stall converter is a good balance for street/strip and it will allow you to powerbrake your car more effectively. Also, leave your car in D (not overdrive), you really don't want your car shifting into OD under WOT

edit - you have a 2004 GT? The J-mod I think is mainly for the earlier 4R70W transmissions, so the predator would be the fastest solution for tightening shifts
