Leaded Fuel in an unleaded vehicle

What happens when you use leaded fuel in a modern EFI vehicle?

I understand you'll be creating more toxic pollution and screwing up any cats (if installed) on your car. But what else?

I heard a few people mention things about fuel injectors but couldn't find any supporting documentation online.

What do you guys think?

Oh, and I also hear the lead will screw up the O2 sensors.... what effect would this have?

Why would you even consider using leaded gas? Where would you find it? I guess I don't understand.

Only one reason I can think of - I live near a drag strip and a few stations around here sell 110 octane leaded race gas.


AFAIK the cats, O2 sensor are the only items.

You will kill the O2 sensors which will put you fuel mileage in the trash. You will also poison the catalytic converters and eliminate any chances of passing the emissions check in your area, if there is one.

Unless you are forced induction with lots of timing and boost or NO2, there is no need for 110 octance race gas.

Better than race gas is a trip to Home Depot or paint store for some Toulene or Xylene. Two gallons of toulene or xylene mixed with 5 gallons of pump gas will give you 100 octane plus and won't hurt your engine or emissions. well now that u know what it would do to ur car, i was also wondering why would u consider this? was it just a question? cause from your mods there would be no need to run 110octane fuel, i would stick with normal 93 at pump and not have to worry about anything being destroyed or killed

He's probably mixxing it, not running straight 110. Usually like 1/4 tank 110 and the rest 93 or something like that.

Well in Michigan there isn't a sniffer test right now.... and running 93 octane with this little boost I get detonation bad at WOT. The 110 leaded octane gas makes it run well (I'm wanting to use it on the track). I guess the leaded gas cures the real problem temporarily (probably not enough fuel/pump).

So thats why I was considering it....

dude.... where do you find 93? pump gas around here (socal) is only 87 89 or 91, then u can go to union76 and get 101 octane hipo feul for like 5.00 a gallon but eh, i wouldnt need it anyway

hmm well in florida we have no problem finding 93 almost every station has it never seen a station that dosent, i just go with 93 and dont worry about anything else

just dont do it, use stp octane booster or likewise if you have to which i doubt, and if you need a higher octane than 104, you can buy race fuel which is unleaded somewhere im sure. but by the sound of you car's description dont even use octane booster.

pretty soon, the price for 101 octane will seem reasonable.

Well, here in the Detroit, Michigan area its very easy to locate...
87, 89, 93, 100, and 110 octane gasoline

Yea here in cali we dont get anything more than wattered down 91 octane :/

that sux, i get 93 everytime, and the few who only have 91 i dont go to.
