unleaded gasoline = worst thing to happen to cars since RUST.

The lead additive acted as a lubricant which kept carbs in good working order and coated the valves to protect them from wear and high temperatures. Also prevented detonation somehow and made high compression ratios possible.

THEN some asshat got the idea that the lead particles coming out the tailpipes and settling along the roadsides was environmentally damaging. Which is utter BS even before you compare the damage done by salting highways, which no one gives a shirt about.

Unleaded gasoline is mandated, catastrophic engine failure from severe detonation and exhaust valves falling off brings the end to the era of efficient high-powered engines. Plenty of airplanes falling out of the sky around then. Automakers had to dramatically lower compression to make cars run on the damned stuff, resulting in the most pathetic engines since side-valve technology with no power and no fuel economy. Took 30 years for technology to bring car engines back up to the performance standard of the musclecar era.

Sorry for the rant, just trying to dispel the myth propagated by environmentalists that leaded gasoline was a bad thing. Unfortunately no you can't use the stuff in EFI engines though.

Yea I'm there for sure. They were going to have it at LACR but moved here to cali speedway. I live about 5 mins from the speedway.

I wouldn't have posted it if I hadn't tried it. It works good, just don't use too much of it during the winter months. It isn't very volatile, so it can be hard to get the car started with a cold engine. Summertime is no problem, as the extra heat makes everything vaporize much more efficently.

Sounds to me like your engine control/boost management system needs to pull some more timing at w.o.t.

Lead is one of the most toxic substances around - no way around it. Getting rid of lead in consumer products was absolutely the right thing to do. http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/HEC/CSEM/lead/physiologic_effects.html Use some other method to raise your octane rating besides running leaded fuel.

Ya, the proper fix is a dyno tune.... this would be hopefully a temporary fix...

I was reading and I had to ask what is a system check for emmisions .... Isn't that your personal business if you want to unload toxins in the air? I'm 36 and live in northern Indiana next to Michigan. I've never been checked for emmisions. I don't have mufflers or caddy's ruins the hp I just change the settings with my laptop

You brought up an 11 year old thread to make what point exactly?

Mufflers and catalytic converters do not "ruin" horsepower. Miss-matched exhaust pieces, undersized and oversized exhaust, and un-tuned exhaust setups do.

How then does Ford make 435 HP out of a 5.0 Coyote with full emissions, catalytic converters and unleaded fuel?
See http://www.motortrend.com/cars/ford/mustang/2017/ for proof that I am not wrong.
Could it be they know something that you don't?

"Why should I leave the smog equipment on if I live in an area that doesn't do smog inspections?"
What's good sauce for the goose is good sauce for the gander. I lived in Florida and had two smog pumps fail on two different 89 5.0 Mustangs. I replaced both of them, even though there was no emissions inspection. Why?

1.) It a federal law that requires emissions equipment to be in place and functional. I have no intention of breaking a law designed to protect my general health and wellbeing, even if I don't like it. I have respect for the rights and wellbeing of other people, and am not one of those whose nature is rebellion.

2.) Whatever imaginary "improvements" someone may strive for, there is very little evidence that the results of removing emissions results in a better car. I can achieve excellent results in performance with all the smog equipment in place and working properly. Maybe you can't, but that is no excuse for removing the emissions equipment. Look at the new 5.0 Mustangs – 281 cubic inches and 435 flywheel HP with full emissions equipment with no aftermarket parts. That tells me that it is possible on a mass production car. It also shows that the guys that designed the engine knew what they were doing to achieve that goal.

3.) I like to breathe clean air, and working emissions equipment helps me do my part to make that possible. Los Angeles has breathable air even with millions of cars: Beijing, the capitol of China has some of the worst air in the world. Why – no emissions requirements for cars.

I don’t want to live where the air looks like this…

Well it's not really only your personal business if other people need to breathe in your fumes you are expelling.

Cats are federally mandated anyway. Doesn't matter if your state doesn't have emissions, it's covered under the clean air act meaning someone could use it to turn the screws to you if they were having a bad day.

And ripping cats and mufflers off doesn't automatically translate to increased power. Quite the opposite could happen. I've spent my youth drag racing straight-piped 5.0s that sounded like the world was coming to an end only to find out they were slow as balls.

I honestly can't stand being behind a car with gutted cats. I'll change lanes to avoid them.

Something the civilized world does to keep the air breathable for everyone.

No. The other 9 billion people and countless animals have to breathe that air too. Would you like it if I pissed in your coffee pot every morning? Same difference.

As I said, it's something done in the civilized world. Hoosier country doesn't count.

So... you brought up a thread from over a decade ago... to... brag about felony emissions equipment tampering?

No mufflers? At his age I would think he'd be past that stage.

You're mixing up your modulars there. The 4.6 was 281ci (and in various forms made as much as 310hp naturally aspirated and "officially" made 390 with an OEM supercharger).

The Coyote was originally 302ci and in it's best form was at 444hp (Boss 302), while the GT got either a 412 or 435hp variant.

The 2018 Mustang will receive a direct-injected 307ci Coyote making 460hp.

Your point still stands, a car doesn't have to be dirty to make ton of power. Hell, I put EFI in ElSuperPinto to clean up it's act and picked up MORE power.
