I'm moving to CA in 7 weeks and I wanted to know what the restrictions for tint are? I looked online but I keep getting mixed info. A couple of sites say that the front windows must allow 70% light in and the backs can be as dark as you want. And then a couple say that there can be NO tint on the front windows and the backs can be tinted as dark as you want. So which is, no tint on front windows or 70%?

The reason I'm asking is I can get a real good deal on getting my car tinted here in AZ but I don't want the hassle of getting pulled over and having to take it off when I move.

no tint

Yeah man back windows and even your quarter windows can be as dark as you want, but thus far, windshield or driver/pass windows can't have any tint on them at all. As far as the windshield, it can only have a tint that doesn't exceed like 5 inches from the top of the windshield. I got a tint ticket earlier this year. But to tell you the truth, tint is only a secondary violation, meaning that they won't pull you over just for tint. I didn't have a front plate on and he got me for both. But yeah everyone here has tint, but as long as your car is good to go with everything else (legal driving spec), and you drive lawfully, they will leave you alone. Right now I have no tint at all on my car, b/c I had to pull it off the front windows and get it checked at the court. It is just a risk you take. Its only a 10 buck ticket for the first offense anyway, so it aint that bad, but you would have to fix the tint, then re-tint at your discretion because I heard the second tint ticket is a lil more expensive. lol. I'd leave the tint and just drive extra careful.

any shade on the back and quarter windows and NOTHING on the doors...that said, I have 5% limo tint on ALL windows except the windsheild and have only been pulled over for it once since I was 16 (all my cars have been tinted the same way) and im 26 now.
