level of rearend fluid

how do you check you rearend differential fluid, my cover is dirty and I have spots on my garage floor from it, I always pull my car in so I know it is not an oil leak from the engine

Take out the fill plug (3/8" or 1/2" square recessed drive) located on the side (passenger side I think) of the differential housing about 1/2 way up. Level should be up to bottom of fill hole.

sounds like you need a new differential pan gasket...but heres a pic. of the filler hole fill until fluid seeps out hole then cap...if you drain and install a new gasket ensure you add friction modifer...

ditto. stick your pinky finger in the hole and fill it till is starts sliming down your arm. good luck trying to get that plug back in it's always been a pita for me

The fill plug is on the drivers side last time I checked.

Fill plug is on the driver side. But hey if it is leaking from the cover then just take the cover off clean the gasket off and use RTV with no gasket next time. Then refill fluid and plug it. Problem solved.

Before I drained fluid, I'd want to clean it up and ensure it's not a pinion seal leak.

And I didnt mean to be redundant last night (that's a pet pieve of mine). Last night Bill's picture didn't load when I pulled up the thread.
