Anyone have this done? I bought a 3550 that is pro shifted and I finally got it installed and wondering about driving it. It shifts like butter when you're on it and i can downshift just fine, but it's clunks if you upshift or downshift slow. Is that how these things are?

They're not designed for slow shifting, so that would be considered "normal."

If you plan to run it daily, it probably won't last very long.

Ok, so why do you say it won't last long in a daily? What's the problem?

Well, you have no synchros -- so essentially it's like grinding the gears with every shift. The tradeoff for being able to shift faster. It might last a couple years, or it might last a few months. It's all going to depend on how much you drive it and how hard you drive it, etc.

So do you have any recommendations on driving it daily? Upshifting and downshifting? It's gonna have to be a daily until I can get another car who knows when, so I would like it to last a while.

Thanks

My TKO is proshifted by Liberty. I wouldn't want to drive it everyday that's for sure. It powershifts awesome but like you said, the way it hammers into gear at mid-rpm shifts makes me grit my teeth. The best way I found to drive mine on the street is 1. Don't downshift unless absolutely necessary and if you have to, get it slowed down as much as possibe before you do. 2. If you upshift at a very low rpm you don't get the clunking. I pretty much lug mine around on the street. Shift around 3,000 rpms or less. 3. Double clutching helps if you get onto it. (clutch in, out of gear, clutch out, clutch in, shift). You can still get a mammoth clunk if not executed perfectly. Liberty is getting away from proshifting now. I talked to Craig a couple weeks ago and they are doing a face-tooth engagement system now which gets away from alot of the problems with the Proshifted stuff. The great thing is, he's selling for the about the same price as the Proshifted stuff. No more having to hold the shifter in gear when on the gas.
