Do I need hydraulic roller lifters or just roller lifters? What factors decide which of the two that you need? I really don't know anything about these parts, so any help would be great.

The cam that you purchase decides that.

The ramp up / down profiles are different between

Solid cam
Hydraulic Solid
Solid rollor cam
hydraulic roller cam.

If you motor is original, you have a hydraulic roller cam. Which means you have hydraulic roller lifters and most OTS cams for the big companies will be set up for hydraulic roller.

Andres, I have used a lot of the Ford lifters with no issues, Summit sells them for $120. Unless you are going solid roller, those lifters will be just fine.

A lot of people say roller lifters when they are talking about hydraulic roller lifters. When people start talking about roller lifters for a mechanical roller cam they tend to specify mechanical roller lifters.
