So i take my car to a shop and they hear the clicking sound of my car, so he puts it on his smog dyno and i keep it at 2500 rpms or so and hey says its coming straight from below the intake manifold and that he's almost 100% sure its the lifters cuz the noise goes aways after i pass 3000 rpms. Anyone know if the lifters require removing the camshaft? Or what technicalities go into this. I have a 1999 mustang gt manual. Also where can i get lifters from?
HELP Please

So do u have to take off the cams for this install cuz some guy wants to charge me about 1200 dollars or so!! Im not mechanically inclined and i want to fix that clicking sound!! if it requires the removal of the cam then i might as well install my vt stage 1 na cams!! How hard is the labor on this? sorry for asking so many questions

i got the same problem. when i get to about 2k on the rpm it here the clicking noise. just started last night. i pulled my valve cover off and im certain you have to pull the cam shaft off to get to them. its only 8 bucks a piece to replace a lifter. it doesnt look to hard to do. i should have my done by sat or sun. gotta wait till payday.

yea its just a noise but its an annoying noise at that. you cant always throw thicker oils and stuff like that just to make the sound go away. i would replace the lifter if thats your problem player4lifeov.

you don't have to pull the cams i don't think.. but i could be wrong.

You may want to release pressure on the cam caps to allow the cams to come up off the lifters and rockers a bit. Then slide the rockers out, pull the lifters out of their little hole.. then swap them out.

Shouldn't take very long.. Maybe 1-2 hours

I had the cams, lifters and rockers out of my old motor in about 10 minutes

first, find another shop. the lifters on a OHC engine are under the cam covers, not under the intake. any "ticking" noise heard around the intake is prob just injector tick.
what weight engine oil do you use?

he probably thinks you have a pushrod engine. The injectors are loud and can easily be mistaken for some sort of valve train noise.

haha no Randy I'm not calling you stupid, not at all. Thats the only icon they have for "I agree w/ the above" (at least thats how I interpret it). I wish they had one that wasn't so ambiguous

Your advice > gold haha

yeah, well I can understand how you could take that the wrong way. But I wouldn't come to MD to ask your advice on plugs, then take your advice and buy them from you if I thought you were stupid. Thanks again btw, that'll give me something to do this weekend.

ok sorry about that i misread it. sorry about that. yea mine really comes on at around 2k and just gets faster with the rpm. pain in the butt. but i talked to someone today and said that i didnt have to pull the cam out just rotate it till bottom circle of that lobe is over the follower. then just pull that stuff out. sounds simple enough to me. we will see how it goes. maybe i should do a write up on how to do one of these. whatcha think?

If you're up for it, we could always use some quality write ups to put in the sticky.
