Lincoln Mark VII - Everthing Compatable?

Hey guys.. i think i have finally found me another project car for a great price.. I know of a 87 Mark VII for sal.. complete car, strong motor.. $450. then, i have a buddy with a 89 lx hatch that was a 4 cyl. he'll sale me for $400.. So, $850 total.. but, I had heard that the mark VII is the exact same fox chassy as the mustang.. correct? If so, i can drop that engine/transmission in.. and ill have the 8.8 rear as well.. and ill have the spindles/calipers and rotors for the 5 lug convesion.. i am going to do a carb setup so i can go through all the 4cyl wires and toss what i dont need.. So i guess my question is.. Is the mark VII a direct match for the stang?

The Mark VII uses the same chassis as the thunderbirds and cougars. Basically same engine bay but they are longer. The lincolns use a hydraboost brake booster, so along with the axle and brakes you'd want that and the master cylinder. The down side is the 87 Mark VII used E6 heads and makes 200hp. Not the E7's and 225hp that the 87 mustangs had. The 88 Mark VII's had the same engine as the mustangs.

Also, as hinted, since the MkVII's are longer they have a longer output shaft on the tranny....so the tranny's arent a direct swap... also with the E6 heads its 270(?) ft/lbs..... are you gutting that mkVII for sure?? cause if you are, i'd like to pick through it lol

Actually not all 87 mark vll's had the HO engine, only the LSC's did. The rest of the cars had the non-HO 302 that was used in the thunderbird. And as he stated, it would have e6's on it if it's an 87.

Yes, this car does have the HO motor in it.. as the plenum shows.. Im not going to use the e6 heads anywa. i have a buddy with a set of gt40P's t sell me for $200.. then ill probabily take them to a machine shop for some port work.. all i am really worried about is the trasmission and rearend. ill have to put the 8.8 from the lincoln in the stang and most likely have a drve shaft custom made. Would i be able to use a ford racing aluminum d/s?? or will it fit right??

Watch yourself with that '87 Mark engine, as far as swapping in a cam or slapping on different heads unless you change to pistons with valve reliefs. It's got the '86-spec Mustang H.O. (200hp/285tq, flat top pistons, smaller TB, lower intake, crappy E6 heads, etc.).

I know all too well about it. Still workin' with what I got, though. Got a set of Thumper E7's on the way.

Also, the 8.8 will probably not have traction loc, since it was an option even on the LSC models I've seen. As far as the brakes, if you want to use the rear disc and the front 73mm calipers, it is the same brake system as the SVO Mustang and the SVO MC would be good for it. If you don't want the "too wide" stock rear end brake setup, you can modify the rear brackets and use the 5 lug Ranger axles if you want. See Matt90GT's website for info: http://svo73mm.cjb.net

Check the axle code on the door, LSC's usually come with 3.27's and Traction Loc.

NYC LSC ..

What i am planning is to use just the block, getting rid of the EFI..topping the bloc with a set of ported gt40 "p" heads (1.85"/1.46" valves).. Then ill add a edelbrock rpm air gap intake, rpm cam (.496"/.520" lift), and a 670cfm holley carb. Will this be alright for the mkVII pistons?

The 85 gt mustang i used to have had flat top pistons.. i used the stock heads w/ gt40 valves on it with a b303 cam and 1.7 rr's.. never any problems.. ??
