Loc-tite on flywheel bolts?

I have heard some people say you should put loc-tite on flywheel bolts, and others say it's unnecessary.

I just put teflon sealer on mine, and torqued them to 80lbs.

Sound ok? I just want to be confident before I drop my engine back in.

Well the factory does so why wouldnt you? If I remember correctly mine was yellow lok tite...

A friend recommended that I use loc tite on mine; he said he learned the hard way.

Teflon sealer is going to be useless on flywheel bolts.

I just put together an 04 mach 1 with a new flywheel, clutch, etc. The fidanza flywheel came with green slip fit sealant or whatever its called....made to put around the pilot before it goes in. I accidently put some on a few flywheel bolts, thinking it was loctite then I realized it wasnt...Put it on no more than 3 of the bolts, the rest I put on blue loctite then tightened it with my snap on 3/8 electric impact till they stop turning....since I couldnt find my torque wrench anyway. I know it ain't going nowhere and they're all roughly the same torque, even though it might be a little tighter than it should I'm not scared of anything coming loose or breaking because a few has the wrong compound on it.

Its good to use a medium strength loc tite, for two reasons, one to assure the bolts stay put and also to seal the threads.
Those bolt holes on the crank go all the way through to the oil side.

Tq the flywheel bolts and the Pressure plate bolts, it is very important!

the bolts aren't coming loose...they've got 85-90 foot pounds on them.

the lock tight is there to seal the bolts in snug against oil leaking past them from the pan.

no, they go all the way through to the oil pan. You'll seep oil out of the bolts if you don't seal them up.

I've never sealed my flywheel bolts and have never seeped oil out of them. Maybe I'm just lucky?

you're not the only one, it's something that def can happen..I wouldn't take apart something for that reason, but it's something I never skip while I'm in there either.

Your stock and most of the aftermarket 302 style cranks are through holes, there are some aftermarket 351W cranks that are blind.
