A friend lost her keys for he '96 Mustang V6 and needs some new ones made and Ford says the vin doesn't register in their system. I have heard that the key code is located somewhere in the glovebox or the trunk. Please help me out if you know where can I locate the ignition cylinder key code (key number). Thanks!!!

I wish I knew.. That sounds crazy that the VIN doesn't register..I'd say that consultant is an idiot. Have you tried running it through online sources as well?

I called three different Ford dealerships and they all told me the exact same thing. They said that they don't have complete records for Mustangs 96 and older. But thanks for your tip! Can you tell me where I can punch in the VIN online for the vehicle stats???

Just see what comes up from the 'free search'. But you would have to subscribe which is a bummer http://www.carfax.com/cfm/general_check.cfm?partner=AOL_C

Could have had a locksmith make a set of keys for about 65 bucks.
