I was just wondering why it is sometimes necessary to tune your car when you add long tube headers? I'm not sure if it's an absolute neccesity, but I've heard this mentioned on more than once.
Thanks in advance guys.

LT's can cause problems two ways. First, the EEC is expecting feedback from the O2 sensors more quickly than it gets when you have LT's installed. That is fixable with a chip. Second, most LT's put the O2 sensors far enough way that they don't run hot enough, especially if the ambient temperature is fairly cool (say 50*). This makes them read lean, which causes the EEC to add fuel trying to correct a lean condition that doesn't really exist.
If you have to deal with strict emissions, they could cause you some grief. Otherwise it'd probably work out okay.

If you have any other mods, adding longtubes and an open exhaust would necessitate turning up the fuel pressure some.

When I installed my Longtubes I had no issues at all...it did run a little rich but still ran fine and gained some power.

Good call, I just had that problem, I needed to have o2 sensors remounted alot closer to the engine because of this problem..Rootus said:LT's can cause problems two ways. The only thing I noticed after LTs was the car instantly ran pig rich.....To cure that I added a Kirban, dialed the pressure back like 28...then i did some plugs checks after a trip or 2 to work....30 miles or so and the plugs showed real lean...DOH.. I added like 4 lbs, drove some, checked the plugs, you get the picture ..took about a week and i had it set back on 40 and all was cool...
thats the only tune mine needed..
if you had the time then moving the O/2 worthwhile..i thought of moving mine but never did get the ambition...
Getting some Jet-Hot coated would help some to....if i had to do it over again would def do that...help keep the heat in the tubes..and they'll stay nice looking to boot...
